Bayelsa: Nigeria under Buhari is becoming a shame - Fayose

Press statement from Ekiti State Governor...

Mr Ayodele Fayose has raised the alarm that Nigeria under President Buhari was fast becoming a shame, describing the failed attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the Bayelsa State governorship election as clear invitation to anarchy. The governor, who said it was shameful that the two elections conducted by INEC under Buhari’s kinsman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu were inconclusive, called on all well-meaning Nigerians and the international community to rise up in condemnation of the APC government’s plot to destroy democracy in the country.

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose who said everything under Buhari was becoming inconclusive, added that; “If in three days, INEC could not conduct credible election in Bayelsa State of just eight local governments, one wonders what will happen during the general elections in 2019.

The simple reality is that INEC under this Buhari’s kinsman, Prof Yakubu, who is fast becoming the classical example of incompetence cannot guarantee free and fair elections in this country.” He saluted the courage of the people of Bayelsa State, describing them as “worthy heroes of democracy that stood their ground against agents of darkness that were prepared to short-change them by imposing a governor they do not want on them.”

Governor Fayose also congratulated the Bayelsa State Governor and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Seriake Dickson for having the people of Bayelsa behind him, adding that “the people of Bayelsa have shown that their power is more than that of the Abuja political oppressors.”

He urged the governor and Bayelsa people not to lose their guard, saying; “Now that they have failed in their bid to use one local government to rig themselves to power, they will surely go back to their evil drawing board to plan fresh assaults.

“Therefore, Bayelsa people must henceforth sleep with their two eyes opened because the APC thieves come not only to steal, but to kill and that can be seen in the way and manner they murdered over 20 people just because they wanted power at all cost.”

While warning on the consequences of destruction of the legacy of free, fair and credible electoral process bequeathed on Nigeria by Dr Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Fayose said; “Nigerians, especially we in Ekiti State are already taking a cue from the Kogi and Bayelsa States experience and are getting prepared for future elections.”

Six Ways to Burn 100 Calories in 10 Minutes

Six Ways to Burn 100 Calories in 10 Minutes

Written December 10, 2014
By Mariam Jehangir

One of the most common excuses for not exercising is not having enough time — especially during the holidays. Between work, family and social responsibility, it’s easy to let the gym take a back seat.

But no matter how busy you are, we’re willing to bet you can find intervals of 10 minutes throughout your day to burn some calories. A Boston University study found that even short bursts of ten minutes spread out throughout the day can be as beneficial as longer hours spent at the gym.

With that, we rounded up a few of our favorite 10-minute workouts that burn around 100 calories each (estimate based on a 150-pound woman). Do these in the morning while the kids are getting ready, on your lunch break, or a few hours before bed and you’ll find getting your workout in is way easier than you thought.

(1):Jump rope at a moderate intensity
(2):One mile run
(3):Bike ride (12 + mph)
(4):Elliptical
(5):Jumping Jacks
(6):Brisk jog up the stairs

In addition to these easy workouts, make sure you stay active through out your day: Walk over to your boss’ office instead of calling her, make a few trips to the water cooler, and take the stairs instead of the elevator. Small changes can make a big overall difference in not just your weight, but also your mood and health.

Nicki Minaj's brother arrested on child rape charges

Nicki Minaj's older brother has been accused of raping a child younger than 13 several times between April and November. Jelani Maraj, 37, of Baldwin, was arraigned on Thursday in a Long Island hospital on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual conduct against a child, a Nassau County court official said. He was arrested on Tuesday but suffered an unknown medical condition that required him to be arraigned two days later at Nassau University Medical Center.

It was not immediately clear if Maraj entered a plea, but he was released on $100 000 bail. His New York City attorney

Investigators wrote in court documents that the victim was younger than 13 and that Maraj raped the child several times. Some details in the court documents were blacked- out by a judge. A spokesperson for the district attorney's office declined to
comment on the allegations. Minaj, who won two American Music Awards last month for favorite artist and album-rap/hip-hop, did not immediately comment through a representative.

Why I was not made a minister by Buhari- Falana

Why I was not made a minister by Buhari- Falana

Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana says he was not appointed as Minister in the Buhari-led govt because of some "ideological reason" He said this in an interview with The Interviewer magazine

“I was actually contacted. I was actually invited to come on board. It took me appreciable time to make up my mind. Along the way, I was made to understand there were people who were opposed to my appointment for ideological reasons. For me, it would have been a call to service, not to make money.
Those who believed that I should mobilize people to put in a word for me, or wanted me to speak to somebody I fought on principle several years ago were, of course, disappointed. This guy actually headed one of the universities at a time students were killed. I had to support the students’ cause at that time. You don’t then expect me to go to him and swallow my vomit. This is what I mean by the ideological price."he said

Coca-Cola Christmas advert sparks 'Racist' outrage, pulls ad

Coca-Cola Christmas advert sparks 'Racist' outrage, pulls ad

Global drinks company Coca-Cola has been branded racist over a Christmas advert intended to unite communities.
Critics have blasted the commercial, which was released in Mexico and was designed to encourage cooperation between marginalised groups.

In the ad distributed by Coca-Cola Mexico, pretty, young white people do their holiday good deed by bringing bottles of soda to a remote village and build a wooden Christmas tree in the town square. The “Open Your Heart” advertisement has been called anything but, as indigenous rights’ groups said the campaign promoted colonialism rather than unity.

“This type of publicity is an act of discrimination and racism,” Elvira Pablo, an indigenous lawyer, said at a press conference in Mexico City on Wednesday. “It is a comment on our type of life and an attempt to put a culture of consumerism in its place.”

After the ad was promoted on YouTube for about a week and then slammed on social media, Coca-cola pulled it on Tuesday—though other versions can be found online, one titled “The ‘White Savior’ Ad Coca-Cola Made Private.”

“Our intention was never to be insensitive to or underestimate any indigenous group,” a Coca-Cola spokesperson said in a statement to food news site Eater. “We have now removed the video and apologize to anyone who may have been offended.”

Silent but for a perky soundtrack, the video shows peppy fair-skinned actors bringing bottles of Coke to the Mixe people in Totontepec, a town in the southern state of Oaxaca.

Text in the video claims that 81.6 percent of Mexico’s indigenous people feel rejected for speaking a language other than Spanish, although it does not cite a source for the statistic. The ad ends with “#AbreTuCorazon” or “#OpenYourHeart.”

But instead of opening hearts, Pablo and other activists said the ad “reproduced and reinforced stereotypes of indigenous people as culturally and racially subordinate,” according to a report in The Guardian, which reported that they have asked the government to sanction the soft drink giant.

The Alliance for Food Health has filed an official complaint with the National Council to Prevent Discrimination. Mexico is one of the most obese nations on the planet and a top consumer of soda—although the nation's soda tax has seen some progress in reducing sales.

As the youngsters sip on the fizzy drink, locals gather to see the tree lit up.
The intention of the advert was to encourage people to “break down prejudice and share.”
It stated: “This Christmas a group of young people decided to give something very special to the indigenous community of Totontepec de Morelos in Oaxaca. You, too, open your heart.”

The advert then goes on to add that 81.6% of Mexico’s indigenous people feel marginalised because they don't speak Spanish as a first language before showing the words, “We will stay united” in the Mixe language.

However, rather than supporting the message contained in the advert, critics have demanded the firm apologise.
One person wrote on Twitter: "When a company as big as Coco-Cola is saying #AbreTuCorazon by giving Coco-Cola to indigenous people. What they are really doing is using them."

While another added: "Coca-Cola's Mexican advert – colonial in implication, racist against indigenous ppl #AbreTuCorazon."

Sperm donor who is dad to 54 children launches his own app

Sperm donor who is dad to 54 children launches his own app

Declan Rooney is a one-man babymaking machine who is in an astonishing crusade to help women struggling to have children.
This year alone Declan has notched up 31 births after setting up an online sperm donation website last year.

Now he even has a smartphone app offering his services as a private donor and a free alternative to clinics.
And with 15 more buns in the oven, he has no intention of stopping – despite causing uproar among family campaigners.
Today Declan, 43 – who has eight children of his own with four different women – hit back at critics of unregulated sperm donation, insisting in his case that everything is above board.
Looking exasperated while nursing the result of one of his donations, Declan said:

“I’m a nice guy. Why can’t people understand I am just doing this to help out?”

He insists he has not received any money as a donor apart from petrol expenses to deliver the sperm to the mother – once, he admits, in a takeaway coffee cup.

“Egg donors get treated like saints, sperm donors get treated like back alley, smutty boys,” says Declan. “But I’m not doing a bad thing. I’m not ashamed. I have helped women create families.

And some like what he offers so much, he even gets repeat business.

“I have seen five of the children in the past month because I have been donating for siblings,” he says.

Declan insists he imposes strict conditions on his services, which includes no sexual contact and banning women from smoking while they are trying to conceive. He also checks potential parents out to make sure they can afford a child.

The former graffiti artist and website designer decided to start donating sperm in March last year.
He said:

“There wasn’t a eureka moment. I just felt as I was in the right place and time of my life.

“It’s not really on an industrial scale. The first children were born last December and will be one this month.

“All of the recipients keep in touch. All the babies are healthy and happy. I have a watchful eye. They send me feedback and tell me how the children are doing.”

He knows that 17 of the 31 children born so far are boys and 14 are girls. After setting up his website, the requests soon started rolling in.

“I’ve been inundated from the start. There were women who had been trying to have a baby for three or four years so it was very busy to begin with.

“I have helped people who have been to clinics where it’s failed, and it has worked first time with me. There are more babies born in the UK by private donation than through private clinics.

Declan usually insists the recipients provide their own sterile sample kits. He says some of his clients simply want a baby without involving a man.

“One was a victim of abuse. She was desperate to be a mum but adamant she never wanted a sexual relationship,” he says. “Another was in her early 40s caring alone for elderly parents. A sperm donor was her only way of getting pregnant as she had no time to meet a man.

Declan’s current partner knows about his donations and he says she is OK with what he is doing.
But he adds:

“My eldest child isn’t too happy about it, but she found out before I was able to tell her. Two of my children are at university. The others are too young to understand. I’m a nice person.”

Two of the women who have had children with Declan are already trying to get pregnant again. And five of his donor babies have met each other because the mums are friends.
He says: “I have got things in place where everyone knows who everyone is, but privacy is still respected. I don’t pressurise people into telling me they are pregnant.

The prolific dad has a three-year-old boy, a two-year-old daughter and a year-old girl from his current relationship. He is also aware that children conceived using donor eggs or sperm can trace their biological parent once they reach 18, in the same way as children who are adopted.

One thing Declan is not concerned about is being stitched up by the mums he vets so carefully.
“I’m not worried about CSA claims because of the people I’ve chosen to help. It’s all done on trust. I don’t expect any problems,” he says

91 year old woman suffocated during sex game with married 49 year old neighbour

A 91-year-old woman is believed to have suffocated during a sex game with her 49-year-old neighbour.
The woman was found on her bed naked from her waist down next to a sex toy in Aveiro, 50 miles south of Porto, Portugal.

A married dad-of-two living next door has been arrested after DNA analysis of semen recovered from the scene.
He was released on bail after going before a judge who was told autopsy results showed she died from asphyxia thought to have taken place during a sex game that spiralled out of control.

The death is believed to be the result of a tragic accident.

A neighbour described the woman, who lived alone, as being “very active” despite her age and said the neighbour often went round her house to do odd jobs.

Police say there was no sign of a forced entry and nothing had been taken from the house.

The Department of State Services (DSS) in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, December 6, said the Service has arrested two out of five of its staff members involved in the robbery of N310 million belonging to a Bureau De Change operator in Abuja.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that Abdulharasheed Ahmadu Maigari conspired with four of his colleagues, Solomon Inusa, Patrick Ishaya, George Mwatapwa Ibbi, and Peter Okoye to carry out the attack. Maigari and Ibbi were arrested while the other three are at still at large.

"Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those still at large. "For the avoidance of doubt, the Service wants to reiterate its commitment to the basic ideals and principles as established by its forebears and will not spare anyone found to be contravening the rules and regulations or the laws of the land.

"We therefore encourage members of the public with useful information that could lead to the arrest of those at large to volunteer same to the Service or other security agency.

Creative steps needed to tackle unemployment- Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti

The Lagos State Government says creative thinking is the best way to tackle the unemployment problem across the country.

The state Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti, at the ministry’s three-day capacity building retreat for its management staff on Friday said that Nigerians need to start having the mentality of job creators not as job-seekers.

He added that if every university graduate looking for office employment persisted, the creative thinking and possibility of evolving winning ideas by fresh graduates would go into extinction.

Adding:

“Hence, the need to arrest the situation by making people think outside the box by putting necessary machineries in place for nurturing ideas.

“The creation of this ministry is as a result of government’s desire to address unemployment and boost already existing wealth creation and employment interventions through vocational centers.

“The Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment is more of an enabler; a link between the government and the private sector in the area of unemployment reduction and ensuring that quality skills are given to the right set of people. We believe that through private sector collaboration, more jobs can be created to bridge the unemployment gaps.”

“Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has made a commitment of N25bn Employment Trust Fund for employment and job creation matters for the next four years.”

Widow loses goods worth over N500, 000 to strange fire in Umuahia

A widow, Mrs. Oluchi Emeka who lost goods worth over N500,000 to a fire that razed her provision shop in Umuahia has appealed to good natured Nigerians to come to her aid.
She said that she heard some noise at about 1 a.m but didn't think anything of it at first because she thought the noise was coming from her neighbour’s house but when the noise persisted, she opened her window and discovered that her shop was on fire.
She said:

“It was beyond my comprehension. When I raised an alarm , my neighbours came out to help me put out the fire. But by the time we opened the shop, all my goods were already burnt down.

“Nothing was rescued from the shop and I just stocked my shop for Christmas sales. I have no money to restock my shop again,” she lamented.

“We don’t use candle in the shop and nothing was plugged to any electric source. Besides, there was power outage all through the night. Even the fuel and kerosene in the shop were not burnt. I can’t explain the cause of this fire. I am a widow with six children. I really need help and support to start over again.”

A resident of the community alleged that the fire may have been started by some evil people who do not appreciate the progress of others.
The resident said:

“This lady lost husband last year and this Christmas, they have also burnt her shop. Her enemies are at work and I will only advise her to be strong in prayer,” she said.

Yesterday, some Nigerian football fans were  expelled from a football stadium in Senegal for displaying Biafran flags.
The fans were expelled minutes after they displayed Biafran flags alongside Nigerian flags at a football match between Nigeria and Algeria at the U-23 African Cup of Nations holding in Dakar, the Senegalese capital.
The Senegalese football association officials considered the display of the Biafran flags at the Leopold Sedar Senghor stadium “a militant act”.
As a result, the Vice President of the Senegalese Football Federation, FSF, Amadou Kane, who was in charge of the organisation, ordered security officials to respond by tearing down the Biafran flags and posters and expelling the supporters involved.
Senegalese FA officials said the group took advantage of the presence of the media at the stadium to raise the Biafran flag.
Dressed in T-shirts with the Biafra logo, eye witnesses said the group “invaded” the left wing of the covered pavilion to flaunt the Biafran flag alongside that of Nigeria. They later displayed a large flag calling for Biafran autonomy.
The match eventually ended 0-0 with Nigeria coming second in Group B with five points, behind Algeria.
Nigeria will face Senegal in the semi-final next week while Algeria will battle South Africa.
