Female judge attacked in court by thug who disagreed with her ruling

Female judge attacked in court by thug who disagreed with her ruling

A female judge was savagely beaten by a man who disagreed with her ruling today.
Justice Miriam Walsh was battered in a prolonged attack before Irish police restrained and arrested the thug.
She was relentlessly punched in the face until security and Garda officers managed to restrain him.
The incident occurred at around 1pm at a family law court sitting at Dolphin’s House in Temple Bar, Dublin.

Justice Walsh was taken to hospital by ambulance but has been released, the Irish Mirror reports .
It’s believed the judge was attacked by a man who was giving evidence in a case.
A spokesman for the Court Service confirmed the assault.
He said: “Security systems are in place and were operational. This allowed the gardai to intervene and make an arrest.

“The judge’s injuries are not believed to be serious. She has been discharged from hospital.”

Sources told how the judge was left helpless as the thug repeatedly beat her.

They added: “Tensions got high after the decision was made and he jumped from the dock at her.

“He also kicked and punched the court registrar who also needed treatment. “The judge was trying to defend herself from him but he was repeatedly hitting her in the face. “She was in a terrible state. She had to be stretchered off to hospital. “It would seem she suffered a broken nose and serious face lacerations.

“There was a lot of blood and she also received a number of cuts to her face. “It is believed the numbers of court gardai stationed at Dolphin House had been recently cut. Instead of five there are now only two.

It is believed the attacker was calm throughout the proceeding until Justice Walsh made her ruling.

“There are systems in place for incidents like these but questions will be asked as to why nothing was done sooner.”

Bar Council chairman David Barniville condemned the attack.
He added:

“Judges are impartial decision-makers whose work is driven by the pursuit of justice for all members of society. “The physical attack on Judge Walsh is an affront to justice. It is a new low and one I hope will never be repeated. “There must be a thorough investigation into the circumstances under which Judge Walsh could be attacked in this deplorable way.”

President Buhari says names of looters will be published soon

President Buhari says names of looters will be published soon

President Buhari yesterday said that his adminstration will soon publish names of those who have returned portions of their loot.

President Buhari, according to Vanguard said that the Central Bank of Nigeria will soon publicly release the names of those who looted the country's treasury and have returned parts of their loot.

He said the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) hasn't published the list yet because they don't want to jeopardize investigations and further recoveries.

At the 15th session of the Anyiam-Osigwe Foundation lecture at the International Conference Centre, in Abuja yesterday, the president said:

“We have taken steps towards recovering a reasonable amount of the money that was looted or misappropriated from public coffers. Investigations are ongoing on public officers who served, or are still serving, and those whose conduct are questionable will be compelled to accept the path of honour and surrender their loot,” he said. “As I stated recently, a good number of people who abused their positions are voluntarily returning the illicit funds.

"I have heard it said that we should disclose the names of the people, and the amount returned. Yes, in due course, the Central Bank of Nigeria will make information available to the public on the surrendered funds, but I must remark that it is yet early days, and any disclosure now may jeopardize the possibility of bigger recoveries. “But we owe Nigerians adequate information, and it shall come in due course.

Yaya Toure wins BBC African Footballer of the year award

Manchester City and Ivory Coast star player, Yaya Toure has won the BBC African Footballer of the year award . He beat competition from Yacine Brahimi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Andre Ayew and Sadio Mane to win the coveted award in London today. He last won it in 2013, and has now become the only player to have won the award twice apart from Jay Jay Okocha and Kanu Nwankwo.

"I am very proud. To receive this dedication from the fans is unbelievable" Toure told BBC Sport. "Also I want to pay tribute to the other nominees. African football is growing up, becoming much better and we have fantastic young players coming through now. I am delighted and very happy. And as an African player, I want to lead all my younger brothers to be successful in the future. When I was a kid I was always dreaming of being an important player. I have sacrificed a lot. I will continue to try to win a trophy every year, I will fight to win a personal trophy." he said
