Street cleaners and guards from a security company, Bad Boyz, helped a woman deliver her baby on a pavement in Hillbrow, South Africa, in the early hours of Friday morning, December 18. Bad Boyz' Hendrik de Klerk told News24 that a security officer was called to help after an expectant mother was about to deliver her baby at the entrance to a building just after 01:00.

"We rushed to the scene and called an ambulance. The ambulance arrived, but the baby boy was already born with the help of street cleaners and Bad Boyz guards." De Klerk said female Pikitup cleaners were doing amazing work in the area. "They walk alone at night, cleaning dark streets - where the street lights are always off. We always keep an eye on them," he said. "There are amazing people in Hillbrow... it is truly a great town. It is just the building hijackers and a few skelms giving it a bad name."

$2.1m arms deal: The Sun Newspaper returns N9m compensation it received to NPAN

$2.1m arms deal: The Sun Newspaper returns N9m compensation it received to NPAN

The Sun Newspaper announced yesterday that they have returned the N9million compensation it received from the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), given to them from the office of the embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki. The money was compensation given to some newspaper houses whose offices were raided by the military last year.

In a statement signed by the Sun Managing Director/Editor-in- Chief, Mr. Eric Osagie, the paper said it took the decision to return the money following the controversy it has since generated. Their statement after the cut...

“The Management of The Sun Publishing Limited has considered the public outcry and diverse controversies generated among media houses, the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) and the public over the N120 million paid by the Goodluck Jonathan administration as compensation to newspaper companies for the unlawful seizure of their newspapers and stoppage of circulation by armed soldiers in several cities across the country in June 2014.

After the unlawful action of the military, to which The Sun lost millions of naira, we had signified the intention to commence litigation against the Federal Government along with other affected newspaper companies.
2. However, at the level of the NPAN, which The Sun is a member, a decision was collectively taken to accept the Presidency’s offer of peaceful settlement in place of litigation in the interest of peace and national security. We were later informed of the payment of N120 million compensation out of which the sum of N9 million was paid to The Sun Management by the NPAN.At the time the compensation was paid, we had no inkling whatsoever under which expenditure sub-head in the Presidency the fund was sourced and that it was allegedly part of the funds meant for the purchase of arms.As a very responsible newspaper organization, which places premium on ethics, individual and corporate integrity, we are certainly embarrassed by the turn of events and the unfortunate insinuation of involvement in the illegal sharing of the nation’s commonwealth and the feasting on the blood of soldiers fighting the war against insurgency. We believe strongly in our corporate integrity and principles of fairness and social justice, which have driven our business considerations over the years. In the light of the foregoing, we have returned the cheque of N9 million to the NPAN for onward transmission to the source through which it came.We have seen that the good intention not to seek redress in court has seemingly backfired. We have also given notice to our lawyers to immediately commence the process in court to redress the huge loss suffered through the actions of the military. We assure our teeming readers of our commitment to serving them faithfully and conscientiously by upholding the time-tested principles of fair business ethics, equity and social justice.

Korean politician who joked that a Nigerian student's skin looks like charcoal apologises

Korean politician who joked that a Nigerian student's skin looks like charcoal apologises

Following the public uproar for jokingly likening the skin colour of a Nigerian student to charcoal, a Korean politician Kim Moo Sung has apologized. Moo-Sung, a front runner for the 2017 South Korean presidential elections and the leader of the country’s ruling conservative Saenuri Party issued the apology after public criticism over his comment.

"I failed to realise that showing friendliness this way could hurt someone’s feelings," Moo Sung wrote on his Facebook page on Friday, December 18. "I am really sorry and there is no excuse. I sincerely apologise from the bottom of my heart"

Moo Sung made the comment while delivering coal briquettes to the needy in Seoul alongside a group of foreign exchange students earlier on Friday. The event was part of a charity programme which drew around 40 students from 27 countries as well as 50 young members of the Saenuri Party.

"Your face colour is the same as the briquettes’ colour," the 64-year-old said to a Nigerian student while laughing.

The 26-year-old Nigerian student who is attending a local university on a South Korean government scholarship, Babalola Joshua Adekunie, said he did not take offence.

"I don’t give any special meaning to it," Adekunie told local news outlet Focus News. "He said it jokingly. He was laughing. Personally I’m a black man… It’s nothing that I am ashamed of."

When he was asked if he thought Kim should apologise to him, Adekunie replied in Korean: "Guenchanayo (No problem)".

It’s 2pm, lunch time, my favourite time of the day. In the last few hours, it feels like I havewritten a thousand reports, attended several meetings and still have more to go. But now I get a few minutes to have lunch before I continue the day’s task. I bring out my cooler and gently open it under my table so those ‘vultures’ I call colleagues won’t hear the sound. Unfortunately for meand fortunately for them, my cooking is amazing and the aroma invited them to my table.
I offered them out of the small food, some quickly snatch my spoon from me to take a bite while some broughtbigger spoons into my food. What effrontery! Ijust smiled but deep down I wasfuming. Right before my eyes, my food finished and I didn’t feel like I ate anything. But it’s all good, because that’s the only thing they cantake from me. That’s the only thing Iwill have to share with them. They may take out of my Amala and Ewedu, my Jollof Rice and Pomo, my Ewa Agoin and Agege bread, but they will never be able to take away my Handy Pack. As they lick their lips and spoons while looking for something to wash down the food they didn’t prepare or even pay for, I bring out myChivita Handy packand placed it on my table. Ilook at them as I relish the fruity goodness of the juice, slowly enjoying its natural taste…hmmm.I could see them salivating but shame will not allow them to ask me because they know that’s one thing I won’t share with anyone. They had no choice but to go get theirs.

This is just one of the few things I enjoy with the new Handy packs from Chivita. It’s easy to carry around and comes in a trendy pack, which naturally compliments my style. And you want to know the really amazing part? It’s just N100…Shikini money, no need for change. That’s a lot of refreshing goodness for such a small price.

My regular after every meal is Chivita 100% Real Orange that is 100% pure natural fruit juice, which is also available in Chivita 100% Real Apple& Pineapple. In all the Lagos traffic and wahala, you can reach for Chivita Active, and when you just need to indulge yourself for an experience in Paradise, Chi Exotic is there for you as Pineapple Coconut, Mango, Tropical fruits & Coconut and Pineapple Papaya Nectars. All these, for only N100per pack in the exciting Handy Pack.

The hustle in Lagos is real, but I brave each day knowing that I have my Chivita Handy Pack with me everywhere I go.
