Argentine fan spits on Lionel Messi at airport (photos)

An Argentine fan who also supports River Plate of Argentina reportedly spat on Lionel Messi on Sunday evening after his club Barcelona celebrated winning the Club World Cup title in Japan where he scored in the 3-0 win. While heading through the Narita International Airport in Tokyo, he was allegedly abused by an irate fan.

According to Spanish magazine Marca, Messi, who some football fans in Argentina don't like because they feel he shows more loyalty and zeal towards Barcelona than Argentina, was about to confront the fan when teammates Mascherano, Luis Suarez and coach Luis Enrique came to calm down the arising tension. Arms deal scandal: Return your N260m share - Oshiomhole tells Anenih

Arms deal scandal: Return your N260m share - Oshiomhole tells Anenih

Edo state Governor Adams Oshiomhole has urged the former Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees and former Chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority, Tony Anenih, to return the N260m allegedly given to him by the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, from the $2.1 billion arms deal. Oshiomole said this at an APC rally in Benin City over the weekend

“We have seen even the godfather’s name being mentioned. Even at old age, he collected N260m, and I want the godfather to deny or to confirm it. If he wants to refund the money, I will collect it from him and I will go to Abuja without deducting anything from it, and I will hand it over to President Muhammadu Buhari.
You can see this is not yet an outcome of any investigation. I am sure by the time the NPA book is fully opened, more revelations will come out. By the time they open NIMASA, you will understand how these people helped themselves and their families, and deprived even the activists who helped to make them relevant. When it was time for help, they dealt quietly, when it was time to mobilize they used everybody. And I think if this is what President Buhari has done for Nigeria, helping us to understand how old people were eating the grasscutter which the younger boys had gone to the bush to bring home. Even without teeth, in their 90s, they never stop stealing. So you can see why new changes are necessary. Not just to build roads but to change the political system that doesn’t allow the young to grow. We respect elders, but the elders must not prevent the younger ones from growing.”he said

“I am still the president'' - Read Sepp Blatter's strong reaction to 8 year football ban

“I am still the president'' - Read Sepp Blatter's strong reaction to 8 year football ban

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has responded to his 8year ban from football by FIFA's Independent Ethics Committee after the committee said he wrongfully paid 2million Swiss francs (£1.35m) to Michel Platini in 2011.

Despite the pair's protests that they did nothing wrong when Blatter paid the former UEFA president the money nine years after both men claimed it was originally due, Blatter was fined 50,000 Swiss francs or £34,000 and Platini 80,000 Swiss francs or £54,000 in addition to being banned.

Speaking at a press conference this morning in Zurich where he spoke German, English, French and Spanish in the space of five minutes, 79 year old Blatter wearing a plaster on his face, claimed that he was a victim, that he remains president of FIFA and that he will take his case to the court of arbitration for sport.

“To say that it is a good day for me or for FIFA, it would be totally wrong” Blatter said. “You can identify me as an optimist. Together with a Swiss lawyer, we thought that we had convinced the panel, with Mr Eckert in the chair, about the situation with the payment. We thought that we were in a situation that was clear, with a clean sheet. “We had a oral contract, a gentleman’s agreement. This was made in 1998 after the World Cup. What astonished me now when I talk about the decision today is that they deny the existence of such an agreement. This agreement was confirmed by two meetings. We have the proof that this agreement existed. “Therefore the 2m Swiss francs paid to Platini went through the finance committee, the executive committee and was done in good terms. This is a donation. This is a gift. We avoided the issue of corruption. We did this because this arrangement was in the Fifa books. You can have oral contracts. Once again we go to the appeal committee. We go to Cas, the court of arbitration for sport. There might have been an administrative error, but this was nothing to do with the ethics. This cannot be proven. If it cannot be proven, then it cannot be guilty.” Blatter continued to defend himself, making reference to the late Nelson Mandela. “Mr Mandela was talking about humanity. Humanity needs no other significance than to respect each other and I say that to celebrate humanity through football was created by this great humanist. “I will fight,” he added. “I will fight for me and I will fight for Fifa. Suspended for what? I spoke with my lawyer this morning and we were not surprised that the notification was made first to the media. This committee has no right to go against the president of Fifa. The president can only be removed by the congress. Even suspended, I am still the president. I regret, but I am not ashamed. “I’m really sorry. I’m sorry that I am still somewhere a punching ball. As president of Fifa, I’m still this punching ball. I’m sorry for Fifa. I’m sorry for football. I’m also sorry about me. How I am treated in this world. “Human beings needs to be respected. It has created a lot of collateral damage in the families. My family was mocked. I regret I am this punching bag. FIFA is still working well, I congratulate Barcelona to winning the Club World Cup. I am a man of principles. These principles are: never take money that is not earned. Secondly, pay your debts. I’ll be back”

I Don’t Intend To Defect To APC – Kashamu

Senator Buruji Kashamu, has denied allegations of plans decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dailypost reports.

Kashamu was rumoured to have had plans to defect to the ruling party because of his support for the federal government’s anti-corruption war.

He had earlier called on Nigerians to be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari as he hailed the anti-corruption war of the president.

The senator representing Ogun east senatorial district, in a statement on Sunday, December 20, said he was not supporting the war because he planned to defect from PDP.

He said: “Our people have suffered for too long because of a greedy few who amass our commonwealth for themselves and their families. Corruption by whatever colouration is bad and inimical to our growth as a nation.”

Kasahmu also said: “Let me make it abundantly clear that I am not in any way romancing the APC. If truly politics is about the people and a contest of ideas, I cannot understand why any politician that is worth the name would see an idea that will benefit the people and not support it, irrespective of political leanings. I will support good initiatives, just as I will criticise bad ones.

‘We must realize that the elections and campaigns are over. Whether we were elected on the platform of the PDP or APC, our people trusted us with their mandate because they know that we would represent them well and fight their course. It is a sacred responsibility that we must not betray.”

In a related development, the Ogun state senator on Thursday, December 17,  threw a party for his supporters after the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan dismissed the tribunal judgment that nullified his election and declared him winner.

Kashamu’s supporters were very excited about the senator’s court victory, and he showed his appreciation by handing some cash to them and thanking them for their support.

Disaster on Miss Universe 2015 as Steve Harvey announces the wrong winner on live TV

Disaster on Miss Universe 2015 as Steve Harvey announces the wrong winner on live TV

Miss Colombia wiped away tears of joy as the $30,000 blue diamond and topaz crown was placed upon her head and she was named Miss Universe 2015, winning the title for her country for the second year in a row. But her glory only lasted for two minutes.
Just as Ariadna Gutierrez was blowing kisses and waving to her adoring fans she was informed, on live television, that it was actually Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo who was meant to be wearing the crown.

Steve Harvey strolled up on stage, the shame already evident on his face, when he told the crowd 'Folks, I have to apologize.''The first runner-up,' he then announced. 'Is Colombia.' 'Miss Universe 2015,' Harvey then dramatically clarified, 'Is Miss Philippines.'

Miss Philippines stared wide-eyed at the audience, her lip quivering as Miss USA whispered into her ear and she realized what exactly those words meant.

Pia joined Ariadna on stage and stared into the audinece in shock, Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega giving her fellow countrywoman a comforting pat on the back just minutes after they had shared a victorious embrace.

'Folks let me take control of this,' Harvey told the sea of boos and cheers. 'This is exactly what's on the card,' he then said, displaying the results on the camera. 'I will take responsibility for this, it was my mistake,' he continued.

'I can show it to your right here, the first runner up is Colombia,' it's my mistake, still a great night. Please don't hold it against the ladies.'

And then came for the heartbreaking moment when Miss Colombia had to bend down, allowing Vega, Ms Universe 2014, to remove the crown and place it on Miss Philippines head instead.

The telecast then came to an abrupt stop, cutting without credits or allowing Miss Philippines to take her first walk as Miss Universe.

‘I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia,’ Harvey wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted in which he spelled both of the women’s countries wrong. ‘This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful.’

Fans immediately took to social media to react to the mistake, criticizing Harvey, expressing regret for Miss Colombia and praise for Pia.

‘Hey #SteveHarvey, good thing Pablo Escobar is dead. #MissUniverse2015’, tweeted one user.

Another asked: ‘Can I hug Miss Colombia right now?’

‘I have to hand it to #PiaWurtzbach,’ wrote another. ‘She was careful w her reaction when she was called as Ms Universe. She knew a colleague was embarrassed.

Former US President Jimmy Carter announces unexpected death of grandson

Former President Jimmy Carter announced the unexpected death of his grandson Jeremy to a church class Sunday, just two weeks after he had announced to the same group by revealing he had beaten cancer.

Carter arrived about 25 minutes late to his weekly class at the Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Ga., and told the congregation his grandson had died just hours earlier, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Carter said Jeremy, 28, was not feeling well Saturday and took a nap in the family’s Peachtree City home. Hours later, his mother found him and realized his heart had stopped, Carter said. He died in a hospital Sunday morning, and the cause of death has not been announced.

Churchgoers told the Journal-Constitution Carter broke the heartbreaking news, then continued with his class and even stayed to take pictures with those in attendance.

“I’m not surprised,” church member Jan Williams told the paper. “That’s the kind of Christian he is. Everything that happens in life, good or bad, he uses as a teaching experience.”
