Photo: Appeal court nullifies Senator Uche Ekwunife's election

In response to the appeal filed by Victor Umeh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), a Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu has nullified the election of Uche Ekwunife of PDP. The judgement read by Justice Datijo Yhaya stated that the March 28 election of Mrs Ekwunife did not meet the prescription of the electoral act and therefore ordered a fresh election to be held within 90 days in the Anambra State Central Senatorial District.

Reacting to the judgement, Mrs. Ekwunife called on her supporters and the people of Anambra Central Senatorial Zone to remain calm. She expressed optimism that she will win election into the senatorial zone anytime any day further sued for peace, describing the judgement as fatal to principles of democracy.

She further called on the people of Anambra Central senatorial zone to remain calm in the face of the judgment, adding that with the overwhelming support they gave her during the election, she will still emerge victorious when the election is conducted.

"The judgement is a judgement of man. The court acted as a father Christmas by awarding to Chief Victor Umeh what he did not ask. But I take the judgement in good faith believing that my victory at the polls was an act of God. I assure my supporters that we will emerge victorious even as I thank Ndi Anambra central for their supports so far".

President Buhari has said the December 31st deadline he gave the military to destroy Boko Haram can be modified if their are reasons to do so. Buhari said this through his Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the 2015 annual conference of the Chief of Army Staff in Dutse, Jigawa state today December 7th.

"Let me emphasise that the timeframe given should serve as a guide and if exigencies of multiple operations across the country requires modification, the Federal Government will not hesitate to do so in order to address the flash points that are emerging in parts of the country. Bayelsa: Nigeria under Buhari is becoming a shame - Fayose

Bayelsa: Nigeria under Buhari is becoming a shame - Fayose

Press statement from Ekiti State Governor...

Mr Ayodele Fayose has raised the alarm that Nigeria under President Buhari was fast becoming a shame, describing the failed attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the Bayelsa State governorship election as clear invitation to anarchy. The governor, who said it was shameful that the two elections conducted by INEC under Buhari’s kinsman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu were inconclusive, called on all well-meaning Nigerians and the international community to rise up in condemnation of the APC government’s plot to destroy democracy in the country.

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose who said everything under Buhari was becoming inconclusive, added that; “If in three days, INEC could not conduct credible election in Bayelsa State of just eight local governments, one wonders what will happen during the general elections in 2019.

The simple reality is that INEC under this Buhari’s kinsman, Prof Yakubu, who is fast becoming the classical example of incompetence cannot guarantee free and fair elections in this country.” He saluted the courage of the people of Bayelsa State, describing them as “worthy heroes of democracy that stood their ground against agents of darkness that were prepared to short-change them by imposing a governor they do not want on them.”

Governor Fayose also congratulated the Bayelsa State Governor and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Seriake Dickson for having the people of Bayelsa behind him, adding that “the people of Bayelsa have shown that their power is more than that of the Abuja political oppressors.”

He urged the governor and Bayelsa people not to lose their guard, saying; “Now that they have failed in their bid to use one local government to rig themselves to power, they will surely go back to their evil drawing board to plan fresh assaults.

“Therefore, Bayelsa people must henceforth sleep with their two eyes opened because the APC thieves come not only to steal, but to kill and that can be seen in the way and manner they murdered over 20 people just because they wanted power at all cost.”

While warning on the consequences of destruction of the legacy of free, fair and credible electoral process bequeathed on Nigeria by Dr Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Fayose said; “Nigerians, especially we in Ekiti State are already taking a cue from the Kogi and Bayelsa States experience and are getting prepared for future elections.”

Six Ways to Burn 100 Calories in 10 Minutes

Six Ways to Burn 100 Calories in 10 Minutes

One of the most common excuses for not exercising is not having enough time — especially during the holidays. Between work, family and social responsibility, it’s easy to let the gym take a back seat.

But no matter how busy you are, we’re willing to bet you can find intervals of 10 minutes throughout your day to burn some calories. A Boston University study found that even short bursts of ten minutes spread out throughout the day can be as beneficial as longer hours spent at the gym.

With that, we rounded up a few of our favorite 10-minute workouts that burn around 100 calories each (estimate based on a 150-pound woman). Do these in the morning while the kids are getting ready, on your lunch break, or a few hours before bed and you’ll find getting your workout in is way easier than you thought.

(1):Jump rope at a moderate intensity
(2):One mile run
(3):Bike ride (12 + mph)
(4):Elliptical
(5):Jumping Jacks
(6):Brisk jog up the stairs

In addition to these easy workouts, make sure you stay active through out your day: Walk over to your boss’ office instead of calling her, make a few trips to the water cooler, and take the stairs instead of the elevator. Small changes can make a big overall difference in not just your weight, but also your mood and health.
