Sokoto gives N500,000 to each family of hajj stampede victims

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto has announced a monetary donation of N500,000 to each of the 138 families of the 2015 hajj stampede from state.

A breakdown of the number of the victims showed that 114 pilgrims from Sokoto were confirmed dead, 22 are still missing while two are injured and receiving treatment.

A statement issued by Tambuwal's spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, said the Governor announced the donation while receiving the report of the 2015 hajj committee in Sokoto Tuesday.

Tambuwal said even though the government cannot compensate the families for the loss of their loved ones, the gesture was in fulfillment of the promise he made when the tragedy occurred in September this year.

He said the families have endured pains since the incident, and commended them for their patience and prayers.

He said government will continue to put in place measures that will enhance the hajj exercise by boosting safety and logistics of the pilgrims.

In his remarks, Leader of the state delegation to this year's hajj exercise and Deputy Governor of Sokoto, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu, said Sokoto pilgrims exhibited good conduct while in the Holy Land.

He appealed to the government to sustain the state feeding programme for pilgrims at transit camps at home and abroad, and announced that Kware and Gwadabawa local government areas have received special awards for maintaining good sanitation in Saudi Arabia.

Check out footballer Adil Rami's epic reply to a fan who called him fat

Sevilla dropped down to eight in the Spanish table over the weekend following a 0-0 draw at Real Betis and a twitter user who's also a Sevilla fan @AdayGarcia97 blasted Sevilla defender Adil Rami, saying he no longer plays well because he is overweight and fat.

This, of course, didn't go down well with the French defender and he responded directly to the fan. Rami tweeted a bare-chested picture of himself with the instructions "Show this to your wife and ask her if I'm fat." lol. The Twitter user yesterday deactivated his account after other fans came for him!

Photo: Zimbabwe to make Chinese yuan legal currency after Beijing cancels $40m debts

Zimbabwe has announced that it will make the Chinese yuan legal tender after Beijing confirmed it would cancel $40m in debts, AFP reports.

"They [China] said they are cancelling our debts that are maturing this year and we are in the process of finalising the debt instruments and calculating the debts," minister Patrick Chinamasa said in a statement.

Chinamasa also announced that Zimbabwe will officially make the Chinese yuan legal tender as it seeks to increase trade with Beijing. Zimbabwe abandoned its own dollar in 2009 after hyperinflation, which had peaked at around 500bn%, rendered it unusable.

It then started using a slew of foreign currencies, including the US dollar and the South African rand. The yuan was later added to the basket of the foreign currencies, but its use had not been approved yet for public transactions in the market dominated by the greenback.

Use of the yuan "will be a function of trade between China and Zimbabwe and acceptability with customers in Zimbabwe," the minister added.

Zimbabwe’s central bank chief John Mangudya was in negotiations with the People’s Bank of China "to see whether we can enhance its usage here," said Chinamasa.

China is Zimbabwe’s biggest trading partner following Zimbabwe’s isolation by its former western trading partners over Harare’s human rights record.

In early December,Chine presient Xi Jinping stopped over in Zimbabwe in a rare trip by a world leader to the country, and presided over the signing of various agreements, mainly to upgrade and rebuild Zimbabwe’s infrastructure such as power stations.

Baby born 12 weeks early so mother could start Chemotherapy, dies

Heidi Loughlin, 32, discovered she had a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer after falling pregnant with her third child. Doctors discovered her cancer in September after she noticed a rash on her breast while feeding her baby son Tait.

She was given the option of terminating the pregnancy so she could begin aggressive chemotherapy. But she decided to keep her baby and begin a less aggressive form of treatment which is expected to start on Wednesday, December 23.

Her baby had to be born 12 weeks prematurely in order for her to be treated for cancer. The baby named Ally Louise Smith was delivered by C-section on December 11, weighing just 2lb 5oz but died on Saturday.

Ms Loughlin, from Portishead, north Somerset posted a poem dedicated to her daughter on her blog. In it the mother of three wrote:

"Yesterday afternoon our hearts broke in two. For we had to say goodbye to you.The pain in my body and heart and my soul feels it will consume me and leave me un-whole".

Writing on her blog after Ally's birth, the mother-of-three said she was "absolutely thrilled" to announce the baby had been born safely.

"She was born today via c section at 1237. She came out foot first and is breathing on her own. She weighs 2lb 5ozs. She has a Laughlin (sic) nose and she has more hair than me"

Transgender man pregnant by his female transgender partner

Transgender man pregnant by his female transgender partner

Diane Rodriguez, a 33-year-old a transwoman who used to be a man has revealed she's expecting her first child with her transgender male partner. She and her partner Fernando Machado, 22, a transman who used to be a woman, met on social media two years ago. And now, they are about to become the first transgender couple in Ecuador to have a baby.

Fernando, from Venezuela, is three months pregnant and moved to live with Diane in Ecuador after meeting online.

Neither Diane nor Fernando has undergone surgery during their gender reassignment process, so becoming pregnant was still possible.

Upon announcing their decision to become transgender, Fernando was supported by his loved ones after explaining that he didn't feel comfortable being a woman. However Diane was rejected by her family, and even had a spell being homeless.

Diane said: "This was the wish of both of us and there was nothing biological or legal to stop us, so we decided to do it"

"We live as man and woman. I’m a transfeminine woman and Fernando is a transmasculine man. "The process to get here was complex for each of us."Knowing it’s our right, we decided to add another member to our family. "

Woman who had ribs removed to look like Jessica Rabbit needs corset to stay alive

Woman who had ribs removed to look like Jessica Rabbit needs corset to stay alive

25 year old Pixee Fox who became famous for removing her ribs to look like Jessica Rabbit has been warned she needs a corset to stay alive. After spending £80,000 on the surgery, doctors are warning her that her corset may need to be worn at all times to keep her organs in place.

The model got the dream body she wanted after having six ribs removed for a thinner waist.
For good measure she also had a boob job, facial interventions and a lift to her bottom. This allowed her to get a record-breaking 14-inch waist.

However the self-proclaimed "body modification artist" who has also compared herself to a "living cartoon" has been criticised by a health expert during an appearance on Romanian television.

The Swedish model had visited the doctor beforehand, but when interviewed by TV hosts Madalin Ionescu and Adelina Pestritu, he said he was concerned about the complications the surgery has on the body - adding that a corset was essential.

Pixee said: "It’s recommended to have something to compress your body to keep everything in place after the surgery and also to provide some protection.

"This corset was custom-made for me to fulfil that requirement."

But wearing the corset too much could have its own complications.

The medic added:"If a person wears it 24 hours a day, then their liver, kidneys and everything else are not going to be in their proper place."

Health scare for Pope Francis as he is unable to stand at Vatican speech

Health scare for Pope Francis as he is unable to stand at Vatican speech

Fears for the health of Pope Francis have resurfaced after he was unable to stand at an official event, explaining that he was 'not feeling strong.'
Addressing Vatican officials in a Christmas speech on Monday, Francis said he had the flu. He said:

'Dear brothers and sisters, Forgive me for not standing up as I speak to you, but for some days I've been suffering from flu and I am not feeling very strong. With your permission, I'll speak to you sitting down.'

The pope has been unsteady of his feet at times in recent months, stumbling several times in public. Last week he celebrated his 79th birthday.

In November as walked up the steps in the Basilica of St John Lateran in Rome he seemingly tripped on his robes, forcing nearby priests to grasp his arms and help him up the steps.
The same week he tripped as he walked up some steps in St Peter's Square, this time being brought to his hands and knees.

That's my full family, love them all equally

Arms deal scandal: Return your N260m share - Oshiomhole tells Anenih

Arms deal scandal: Return your N260m share - Oshiomhole tells Anenih

Edo state Governor Adams Oshiomhole has urged the former Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees and former Chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority, Tony Anenih, to return the N260m allegedly given to him by the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, from the $2.1 billion arms deal. Oshiomole said this at an APC rally in Benin City over the weekend

“We have seen even the godfather’s name being mentioned. Even at old age, he collected N260m, and I want the godfather to deny or to confirm it. If he wants to refund the money, I will collect it from him and I will go to Abuja without deducting anything from it, and I will hand it over to President Muhammadu Buhari.
You can see this is not yet an outcome of any investigation. I am sure by the time the NPA book is fully opened, more revelations will come out. By the time they open NIMASA, you will understand how these people helped themselves and their families, and deprived even the activists who helped to make them relevant. When it was time for help, they dealt quietly, when it was time to mobilize they used everybody. And I think if this is what President Buhari has done for Nigeria, helping us to understand how old people were eating the grasscutter which the younger boys had gone to the bush to bring home. Even without teeth, in their 90s, they never stop stealing. So you can see why new changes are necessary. Not just to build roads but to change the political system that doesn’t allow the young to grow. We respect elders, but the elders must not prevent the younger ones from growing.”he said

“I am still the president'' - Read Sepp Blatter's strong reaction to 8 year football ban

“I am still the president'' - Read Sepp Blatter's strong reaction to 8 year football ban

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has responded to his 8year ban from football by FIFA's Independent Ethics Committee after the committee said he wrongfully paid 2million Swiss francs (£1.35m) to Michel Platini in 2011.

Despite the pair's protests that they did nothing wrong when Blatter paid the former UEFA president the money nine years after both men claimed it was originally due, Blatter was fined 50,000 Swiss francs or £34,000 and Platini 80,000 Swiss francs or £54,000 in addition to being banned.

Speaking at a press conference this morning in Zurich where he spoke German, English, French and Spanish in the space of five minutes, 79 year old Blatter wearing a plaster on his face, claimed that he was a victim, that he remains president of FIFA and that he will take his case to the court of arbitration for sport.

“To say that it is a good day for me or for FIFA, it would be totally wrong” Blatter said. “You can identify me as an optimist. Together with a Swiss lawyer, we thought that we had convinced the panel, with Mr Eckert in the chair, about the situation with the payment. We thought that we were in a situation that was clear, with a clean sheet. “We had a oral contract, a gentleman’s agreement. This was made in 1998 after the World Cup. What astonished me now when I talk about the decision today is that they deny the existence of such an agreement. This agreement was confirmed by two meetings. We have the proof that this agreement existed. “Therefore the 2m Swiss francs paid to Platini went through the finance committee, the executive committee and was done in good terms. This is a donation. This is a gift. We avoided the issue of corruption. We did this because this arrangement was in the Fifa books. You can have oral contracts. Once again we go to the appeal committee. We go to Cas, the court of arbitration for sport. There might have been an administrative error, but this was nothing to do with the ethics. This cannot be proven. If it cannot be proven, then it cannot be guilty.” Blatter continued to defend himself, making reference to the late Nelson Mandela. “Mr Mandela was talking about humanity. Humanity needs no other significance than to respect each other and I say that to celebrate humanity through football was created by this great humanist. “I will fight,” he added. “I will fight for me and I will fight for Fifa. Suspended for what? I spoke with my lawyer this morning and we were not surprised that the notification was made first to the media. This committee has no right to go against the president of Fifa. The president can only be removed by the congress. Even suspended, I am still the president. I regret, but I am not ashamed. “I’m really sorry. I’m sorry that I am still somewhere a punching ball. As president of Fifa, I’m still this punching ball. I’m sorry for Fifa. I’m sorry for football. I’m also sorry about me. How I am treated in this world. “Human beings needs to be respected. It has created a lot of collateral damage in the families. My family was mocked. I regret I am this punching bag. FIFA is still working well, I congratulate Barcelona to winning the Club World Cup. I am a man of principles. These principles are: never take money that is not earned. Secondly, pay your debts. I’ll be back”
