Toni Payne, pours out her heart in new article - Letting go of all Bitterness and Hate for the one I once loved - 9ice's ex-wife,

Toni Payne and Singer 9ice, had a shock divorce in 2010 after one and half year of marriage...well, Toni who is now a single mum of one, recently penned down this article below:
It has been a good 6 years and now I can categorically say I have let go of all bitterness and hate I felt for a man I once loved. It has been an uphill journey but to find myself here is a blessing. . . Without getting into detail and backtracking too much, I’ll summarize it as a lot of naivety, a lot of bad decisions, and a lot of untrained media professionals ready to blow things out of proportion.

A man sang a song and for whatever reason known to them, Nigerian Media “professionals” decided to tag it as what it was not, and a lot of Nigerian onlookers decided to help spread it without knowing if it was true or not and unfortunately for me, I was caught in the crossfire. .

A lot of people formed opinions about me, some even hate me till today for something that was mere fiction. Such is life right? Till today, I still wonder how things got that far. I wonder how things got so nasty. I wonder how a once beautiful relationship turned so sour so quickly.

These days, we talk – a lot. We talk about what happened and how we got here. These days, we can now joke and laugh about the past. I ask a lot of questions because I really want to understand him and put myself in his shoes. . . I also hope he understands my every reaction and puts himself in my shoes. Through all the mess, we never really talked deeply about things. There was too much resentment on my side for me to want to allow him in.There was too much bitterness in my soul to ever want to forgive. I honestly never thought this day would come – that is how angry I was. There is a Yoruba proverb that states “when the ocean rises, you don’t rise to meet it.”

For every action there is a reaction and for every reaction there are consequences. I think sometimes, when you are finally in a good place, it is good to talk. Don’t just leave things like that, reach out to each other and talk about things. It is good for both parties to get closure. . . It is good to try to understand each other and move on with peace in your heart. He stands by his reasoning that he never mentioned my name or ever accused me of such, and even though I agree with him that he never accused me of anything, I stand by my reasoning that he still should have defended me against a very wicked rumor.

He argues that he felt it would have escalated things, I argue that things got escalated because he did not speak up. We both believed in our decisions at that point. He felt silence was the best answer, I felt I needed to defend myself for posterity sake. . . At the end of the day, it is what it is. When the noise calms, we still have to deal with each other. When the curtains fall, we still need to have each others best interest at heart. I am not perfect but I can categorically say I did my best to be a good woman to him. I still do. I believe deep down inside, he knows this.

I do all possible best never to speak ill of him publicly – and as far as I know, he does the same for me. After everything we went through, I always say it is best to keep your private life private. . I write this today not to deviate from that but it would be unfair to forgive wholesomely for something that was so “Public” while leaving the impression that I have not.

I know a lot of people think I hate him- I don’t!. I also write this today not to bring up the past but to go on record and let anyone that feels bitter inside know that it only gets better. Trust me, if I can move on from an entire nation thinking I cheated when I did not, you can also forgive whomever hurt you. . . Just let love and kindness in your heart. Bitterness is a heavy weight to carry and now I feel 100 times lighter. I believe the younger ones can learn a lot from our errors and most importantly learn about forgiveness.

In life, we can only predict what we want from it, we can never ever guess 100% what it will give us. I spent so many years caring what others think till I realized in this life, the opinion of others is just that – an opinion. I believe I am starting my 2016 off in the right direction.

I hope to work on forgiving others who contributed to this chapter in my story. I believe this is a great place to start. At the end of the day, we are family and I am eternally grateful for the grace to see this day. Cheers to 2016

The Slain Mexican mayor Gisela Mota sacrificed herself to save family

The Slain Mexican mayor Gisela Mota sacrificed herself to save family

When gunmen burst into her home, the freshly-installed mayor of Temixco, south of Mexico City, told them to leave her family alone and surrendered to them, witnesses recalled.
Gisela Mota, who lived with her parents, was still in her pajamas on Saturday morning when the masked commando jumped a wall and stormed the house.
The 33-year-old single woman's parents were home along with her newborn nephew, whose grandmother was preparing to give him a bottle.

The assailants beat up her relatives until Mota "gave herself up so that they would let the others go," said the mayor's mother, Juanita Ocampo.

"I told them that if they wanted to kill me, they should kill me first," Ocampo told reporters. "But she told them, 'I am Gisela.' They took her because she was very brave."

But the triggermen pulled Mota from her bedroom, took her to the living room and killed her in front of her parents. Her desperate father ran after the killers.
Mota's murder has become a tragic symbol of the threats mayors face across Mexico and the violence that has engulfed Morelos, where drug cartels fight turf wars while kidnapping and extorting citizens.

Mota was killed just one day after taking the oath of office amid hopes among supporters that she would fulfill her promise to curb crime in the city of 100,000, known for resorts and water slides, just two hours from Mexico City.

But the left-of-center mayor became one of the victims of the gangland violence that has plagued the city, as authorities blamed Los Rojos drug gang for her murder.
Her home stands out among the other houses in the humble neighborhood. It has a rustic wooden door and a brick oven on the patio.
Neighbors recalled that on the eve of her murder, Mota had celebrated her new job with music and dancing.

"The next morning, six shots were heard. We thought it was firecrackers. But we heard them scream that they killed Gisela," said Pablo Ortega, a 48-year-old neighbor, who said seven armed men had arrived in a car.

Shortly after the murder, the police killed two suspects in a shootout and arrested three others, including a 17-year-old boy and a 32-year-old woman.

Morelos Governor Graco Ramirez said Los Rojos killed Mota as a warning to other mayors who back his controversial plan to place state and municipal police under a "unified command."
Ramirez praised his late colleague from the Democratic Revolution Party as "independent and combative."

The Lagos government closes Oshodi market over insecurity challenges

Lagos State Government yesterday shut down Owonifari market in the Oshodi, Oshodi/Isolo Local Government, aimed at addressing the security challenges in the area.
Lagos State Government often arrested hoodlums in Oshodi for various robberies and other petty incidents.Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, lamented that the market has constituted a menace and an eyesore to the locality.
He added that they have relocated affected traders and shop owners to the newly built Isopakodowo market stalls at Bolade area in Oshodi. Lagos State Governor Ambode signs N25 Billion Employment Trust Fund Bill and LASU Bill into law, inaugurates Lagos State Law Commission- photos

In fulfillment of his electoral promise, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday January 5 signed the N25bn Employment Trust Fund Bill into law, just as he promised to work hard to address unemployment and promote wealth creation through entrepreneurial development.

The Governor, who also signed the Lagos State University Bill into law, described the two bills as very significant and crucial to the realization of his administration’s policy objectives.

Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Governor Ambode said the establishment of the Employment Trust Fund was in line with keeping faith with the promise he made to the people during the electioneering campaign.

"One of our campaign promises was to establish an Employment Trust Fund. Today, we are fulfilling this promise with the official signing of the Bill formally establishing the Employment Trust Fund.

"This bill will address the challenge of unemployment and promote wealth creation through entrepreneurial development. As I sign this Bill today, an annual contribution of N6.25billion will be injected into the Fund by the State Government for 4years totaling N25billion."

Governor Ambode also said that a Board of Trustees made up of core professionals would be announced in due course to manage the Fund, adding that more information on the operations of the Fund would be unveiled in due course.

On the LASU bill, he said it was also a demonstration of his commitment to actualise the dream of the founding fathers of the institution, adding that he remained committed to raising the standard of academic excellence to a level comparable to other citadels of learning in the world.

While appreciating members of the Lagos State House of Assembly for the favourable consideration of the two Bills and their speedy passage, Governor Ambode said the desire of his administration was to see LASU develop and churn out young professionals who will lead Nigeria to greater heights in the near future.

Earlier, Governor Ambode, while inaugurating a new board of the Lagos State Law Reform Commission, restated the commitment of his administration to deepen democracy and rule of law especially by carrying out periodic review of obsolete laws in the State to bring them in tune with current realities for relevance and effectiveness.

The Governor said such periodic review was important especially to his administration in achieving the goal of creating an enabling environment for investors, entrepreneurs and making Lagos globally competitive.
While alluding to the fact that all modern and civilized societies thrive on the qualities of laws which regulate and guide the actions of government, organizations, individuals and institutions, Governor Ambode charged members of the Commission to hit the ground running by expediting action on the creation of electronic portal that is aimed at providing access to laws of the State online from anywhere in the world.

"This is a major project which the new Board has a responsibility to deliver in record time. It is very vital to the success of our drive to attract investors to our State, Ambode said"

Chairman of the newly inaugurated board is Professor Gbolahan Ellias (SAN), while members are Dr. Omogbai Omo-Eboh, Mr. Demola Sadiq and Mrs. Tola Akinsanya. The Executive Secretary is Mrs. Ade Adeyemo. Speaking earlier at the inauguration, Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem said the past board was inaugurated on March 12, 2012, and was dissolved by Governor Ambode on June 15, 2015 in accordance with the provision of the law establishing the Commission as amended in 2012.

Responding, Professor Ellias, who spoke on behalf of other members, thanked Governor Ambode for the confidence reposed in them and assured that they would do all within the confines of the law to executive the mandate fearlessly and conscientiously.

President Obama cries as he pushes gun control at speech surrounded by families of mass shooting victims- Photos

United states President Barack Obama put the weight of the Newtown, Connecticut, shooting behind his newly announced gun measures yesterday morning, crying for the 20 school children who died in the 2012 massacre as he stood with their families.

'Every time I think about those kids it gets me mad,' Obama said as tears rolled down his face.

Obama was introduced by Mark Barden, the managing director of Sandy Hook Promise. Barden’s son Daniel was killed in the Dec. 14, 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Also on stage with Obama today: Jimmy Greene, the father of Ana Grace, another child murdered in the Newtown massacre.

'We do not have to accept this carnage as the price of freedom,' Obama said, as he stood before gun control activists, including former representative Gabby Giffords, who was shot point blank five years ago this week and survived"

The president was flanked by gun violence survivors and the families of others who were not as fortunate as he spoke.

Peter Read, a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and the father of Mary Read, killed in the 2007 shooting at Virginia Tech, joined the president on stage as did Jennifer Pinckney, the wife of Reverend Clementa Pinckney, murdered at the Emanuel AME in Charleston last year.

Obama pointedly lambasted Republicans decrying his executive actions and told presidential candidates, including Donald Trump, who have characterized the new measures as the beginning of the end, 'This is not a plot to take away everybody's guns.'

'Contrary to the claims of what some gun rights proponents have suggested, this hasn't been the first step in some slippery slope to mass confiscation,' Obama declared in remarks from the East Room of the White House.

We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to become scapegoats for President Obama’s failed policies - NRA official Chris Cox

To those who are trying to 'twist' his words on the Second Amendment, Obama reminded them, 'I taught constitutional law.'

'I know a little bit about this,' he said. 'I get it.'

'But I also believe that we can find ways to reduce gun violence consistent with the Second Amendment,' he said.

The president berated lawmakers on Capitol Hill for not doing more to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and said, 'The gun lobby may be holding Congress hostage right now but they are not holding America hostage.'

LASSA FEVER: OLULADE URGES LAGOS RESIDENTS TO BE CAUTIOUS

The Chairman, House Committee on Health Services of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Segun Olulade has called on residents in the state to be cautious and report to the nearest hospital any symptoms of Lassa fever.

Olulade, who was reacting to the news from Taraba State, where the outbreak of Lassa fever has been confirmed, with one person dead and two others quarantined, advised Lagosians to look out for every symptoms of the disease and immediately report if any of the symptom is discovered anywhere.

Some of the symptoms according to the lawmaker include: nasal bleeding, as well as bleeding through the anus and mouth, adding that people usually get infected with the Lassa Virus after exposure to infected rodents, while person to person transmission occurs through direct contact with the sick person.

Olulade, who is representing Epe Constituency II, also called on the residents of the state to avoid contact with rats, just as he urged them to do a total fumigation of their environment. “We just finished the Christmas and New Year celebration and there is no way our surroundings won’t be littered with dirt and remnants from food stuffs.

“So there is need for us to do a proper fumigation of our environments so as to prevent rats from our environment. Other precautionary measures include putting food in rodent proof containers and wearing protections such as masks, gloves, gowns among others,” he added.

It could be recalled that a Lassa fever outbreak occurred in Taraba in February 2012 causing the death of 10 people including a doctor and two nurses who attended to the patients.

Lassa fever is described as an acute viral haemorrhagic illness of one to four weeks duration that occurs in West Africa. Experts say it is transmitted to humans via contact with food or household items contaminated with rodent urine or fecal matter.

Mbaka’s Prophesy: ‘We’ll shutdown Nigeria if anything ugly happens to Buhari’

Mbaka’s Prophesy: ‘We’ll shutdown Nigeria if anything ugly happens to Buhari’

By Anayo Okoli

UMUAHIA—FOLLOWING Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka’s prediction of possible assassination plot against President Muhammadu Buhari, a group, Buhari South-East Youth Movement, BSEYM, has threatened to shut down the country if anything ugly happens to the President.

Mbaka-Buhari

The group advised anyone or group with such evil plan to have a rethink “because such will spell doom for not just the country.”

In a statement in Umuahia, Abia State by its leader, Mr. Nwabueze Onwuneme, the group expressed its support for President Buhari’s anti-corruption war.

It called on anyone with any knowledge of any ploy against the President or the country to immediately divulge such to law enforcement agents.

According to the group, Mbaka’s prediction should not be dismissed with a wave of hands because “corruption really fights back dirty when attacked.”

It called on all well-meaning Nigerians to resist the evil work of “this small group that wants to kill this country,” and which had improvised the masses, and support President Buhari in his effort to sanitize the country.

Davido’s babymama drama: We shall soon know the king of cannabis — Dele Momodu

Davido’s babymama drama: We shall soon know the king of cannabis — Dele Momodu

It seems the babymama drama involving 23-year-old pop artiste, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido and 28-year-old Sophia Momodu, the niece of popular publisher, Dele Momodu, will not end soon.

In what look to be an indirect response to the allegation by Davido that Sophia infected their daughter, Imade with Cannabis; Dele Momodu threatened that Nigerians will soon know the king of cannabis when the case is fully disclosed.

The veteran journalist disclosed this in a tweet, hinting that he is not fighting anyone but oppression of his niece by the rich and powerful.

Davido and Sophia

“Good morning Africa! Thanks to all the journalists calling to ask my side of the raging story but I can’t talk because lawyers are involved”.

“It is also pertinent to establish the rule of law rather than brigandage but we shall soon know the king of cannabis in Nigeria!”

“The rich and powerful always think they can get away with anything but under a CHANGE government we shall test the laws protecting the weak!,” Momodu posted on Twitter.

On Sunday, Davido rebuffed claims by his estranged lover, Sophia Momodu on the circumstances surrounding the removal of their daughter, Imade, from Sophia’s custody.

In a lengthy narrative issued, Adeleke alleged that Sophia had been in weekly contact with Imade up till last week and claimed that hospital authorities had sought to transfer the baby to officials of the Lagos State Children Welfare Authority on account of alleged drug use by Sophia.

Adeleke in his narrative said the hospital authorities recanted only after Sophia agreed to surrender the baby for care with him, saying his estranged lover had kept to the agreement until she recanted last week as she insisted on going along with the Adeleke family for the treatment and family vacation in Dubai.

Adeleke in the narrative poured invectives on the respected veteran journalist, Dele Momodu, who he accused of not taking care of his niece, Sophia, alleging that Mr. Momodu and his wife entered the scene as busybodies who he claimed did not bother about the welfare of their niece until she had a baby for him.

EFCC has this to say again, N1.4bn Has Been Traced To Account Linked To Olisa Metuh

EFCC has this to say again, N1.4bn Has Been Traced To Account Linked To Olisa Metuh

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have traced the sum of N1.4bn to the account of a company said to be linked with Peoples Democratic Party spokesman, Olisa Metuh

The company, Destra Investment Limited had N6.67 million account balance as at November 24, 2014, but by December 2015, the balance "magically" grew to N1.4billion.

According to sources, the EFCC found out that Destra Investment Limited funded PDP activities, including its 2015 campaign.

Here's a breakdown of some of the deposits to the account:
N400million from the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA) on November 24th, 2014; N253million ( December 2nd and 4th, 2014) from Ibrahim Kabiru whose identity was yet to be confirmed; N91million on 2nd December 2014 from Capital Field Investment; and N92million on 3rd December 2014 from Etonye Oyintoneife.

A source in EFCC told The News that: “We will invite Metuh any moment from now for clarifications on some of these transactions in this firm, which he allegedly owns.

“By December 2015, the owner of Destra had a turnover of over N1.4billion. There is no document to show that the company executed any job for ONSA. All companies engaged by ONSA appeared before the initial Special Investigative Panel raised by the Presidency.

“Other documents indicated that Metuh was allegedly on a monthly unexplained stipend of N4million cash from ONSA.

“Out of the funds in Destra account, N25million was paid to Abba Dabo, a former Senior Special Assistant Political to former Vice President Namadi Sambo on the 16th of December 2014.

“Also, about N21,776,000 was remitted on 4th December 2014 to an account allegedly belonging to a former Minister of Works, Chief Tony Anenih; N31.5million to his media aide and N50 million to Metuh/Kanayo on the same transaction date.

“We have also established a link between Capital Field Investment and SEI Societe d’equipments Internanaux-Niamey-Niger BP 11737 which was hired by ONSA to purchase €3,654,121million security vehicles for the Republic of Niger in October 2013 and April 2014.”

EFCC investigators have assembled their documents and set to pick up Metuh.

Professor shocked as students arrive exams in costumes after he jokingly told them to

Professor shocked as students arrive exams in costumes after he jokingly told them to

A Russian university professor was left baffled after challenging his students to dress up in costumes for extra points on an exam.

Engineering students at one of the universities in Ufa, south-central Russia's Republic of Bashkortostan turned up dressed in everything from sexy Santa outfits to Bugs Bunny costumes. The professor had reportedly joked that students would get bonus points for turning to to the Mechanics of Materials exam in carnival costumes.

A picture of the students sitting the exam in fancy dress made it onto Russian social media, showing them dressed as tigers, crocodiles and even a pirate. Some of the students were grateful to get some extra points while others reportedly complained about their professor's unorthodox teaching methods.

'We came to university to study, not to make silly jokes', one disgruntled student told a local newspaper.

Another former student said they remembered how they had to perform a circle dance in order to receive permission to participate in the exam.

What made the carnival costume caper baffling for others was reportedly the fact that the professor is known mostly for having no sense of humour.

One student said:

'He is a prickly guy who tolerates no mucking about, sniggering or joking in his lectures.
'What made him think of ordering his students to dress up as if they were going on a carnival parade, God only knows.'

Governor Ambode converts LASU to residential campus, approves 5-yr single term for VCs

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, Tuesday, signed a bill into law converting the Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, to a residential institution. He also approved 70 years retirement age for professors of the institution as well as a five-year single term for the Vice Chancellor of the institution.

Signing the bill into law at the State House, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Tuesday, Ambode said the amended law is aimed at raising the standard of the school to an enviable position and a school that people would be proud of.

According to Vanguard ,Deputy Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni said the law was amended to address the acrimonies that arose during the tenure of Prof. Obafunwa as Vice Chancellor of the school.

He said the major reform of the law is approving five-year single term for the Vice Chancellor of the school in order to prevent the crisis often encountered when the Vice Chancellor’s position runs for two terms.

Another major reform in the law, he disclosed, is converting LASU to a residential campus, while the retirement age of professors of the institution would now be 70 years instead of the usual 65 years.

He said turning the school to a residential campus would help in mitigating incessant clashes between students of the school and Iba residents.

Below is the statement from PDP

Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrived the Abuja home of the spokesman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh this morning, inviting him to follow them to the commission’s headquarters.

Upon enquiry on the reasons for the invitation, the officials stated that he has some issues to clear with the commission. They also said he was not being arrested but friendly invited. The operatives, four in number, came in a White unmarked Toyota Hiace bus.

As at the time of issuing this statement, Chief Metuh is still being kept at the commission’s headquarters and his lawyers were making frantic efforts to reach him.

While details of why Chief Metuh was invited is yet to be made pubic by the commission, it could be recalled that severally, Chief Metuh, as the mouthpiece of the opposition party had alerted in various press conferences and statements that he has been under threat and that the ruling party and the government have been very uncomfortable with his stance.

The latest being the outburst and threats by the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun in reaction to Chief Metuh’s criticisms of President Buhari’s widely criticized response on government’s disobedience of court orders, during the last Wednesday’s Presidential Media chat.

The Office of the National Publicity Secretary will keep the public updated on any development on the issue.
