BREAKING: Andy Ruiz knocks out Anthony Joshua, takes three world titles

Ruiz recorded a monster upset, knocking down Britain’s Joshua four times to take the World Boxing Association, International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Organization titles.

Ruiz came into the fight as a massive 20-1 underdog. But he won it in the middle of the seventh round when the referee stopped it at 1:26 of the round after the fourth knockdown.

Ruiz, sent to the canvas once himself, knocked Joshua down twice in the third round and twice more in the seventh.

Joshua had a massive height and reach advantage as he weighed in at a chiselled 255 pounds compared to the portly Ruiz, who beefed up to 268 pounds compared to 250 for his most recent fight.

Ruiz, who has won four fights in a row, looked fearless and poised while Joshua — who had won all 22 of his previous bouts — never seemed to recover from the first knockdown early in the third.

Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric has criticised Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for choosing not to attend this month’s ceremony where he was given the award.

He said their decision was unfair to fellow players and voters.

Croatian captain Modric broke Messi and Ronaldo’s decade-long stranglehold on the prestigious prize last month.

He said in a newspaper interview on Saturday the pair’s absence from the gala in Paris on Dec. 3 did not make sense.

“I cannot speak about why someone didn’t turn up at an award ceremony, it’s their choice. It doesn’t make sense, does it?

“It seems these votes and awards are only significant when they win,” the Real Madrid midfielder told Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti.

“It’s unfair to fellow players and voters who have nominated them in the past 10 years, as well as to football and the fans. However, people will act the way they think they should.”

Juventus forward Ronaldo came second in the 2018 Ballon d’Or vote behind his old Real team-mate Modric, while Messi was fifth.

It was a ranking which met with some consternation at both the Argentine’s club FC Barcelona and in the Catalan media.

Modric lifted a third successive UEFA Champions League title with Real last season and led Croatia to a first-ever FIFA World Cup final.

But he said Ronaldo and Messi were still the best two players around, even as he added that it did not mean they should always be named best player each season.

“In my opinion, things are very simple: Ronaldo and Messi are phenomenons who have been dominant in the past 10 years or so. They’ve been in a league of their own,” Modric said.

“But we are talking about a season’s accomplishments here and I guess it means something that votes by national team coaches, managers, football legends, journalists and fellow players have produced the same results.”

The Croatian also offered the sarcastic suggestion: “If the debate is going to be about how good a particular player is, the only course of action is to award all trophies to Messi and Ronaldo until they retire and scrap the voting.”

Ronaldo given two-year prison sentence after striking deal over tax charges

Ronaldo given two-year prison sentence after striking deal over tax charges

Socceruncle | July. 27, 2018

The new Juventus signing will not see the inside of a prison cell but must pay a hefty fine after coming to an agreement over evasion allegations

Cristiano Ronaldo will accept a two-year prison sentence and a fine worth  €19 million (£16.9m/$22.15m) after striking a deal with Spanish authorities over tax charges.

The ex-Real Madrid striker, now at Juventus, pleaded guilty to four charges of evasion between 2011 and 2014 worth a total of €14.7m.

According to EFE, that amount has been reduced in his guilty plea to €5.7m, although taking into account fines, interests and other cost the sum ascends to €19m.

The charges were initially denied by Ronaldo and his management company Gestifute, with the player answering tetchily whenever questioned over the matter.

After reports emerged that the Spanish government had rejected an initial offer to settle the case, Cristiano wrote on Instagram "Don't try to spoil the beautiful moment I'm living through with fake news," while on another occasion he insisted:  "I do things the right way and I will continue to do so."

As a first-time offender Ronaldo's prison sentence will not be made effective, meaning that he will not spend time behind bars.

Under Spanish law, though, if the Portugal striker re-offends during the duration of the sentence he would then be open to a custodial sentence.

Ronaldo's sentence still must be confirmed, which will occur when the star presents himself before Madrid's Pozuelo de Alarcon court to hear the final verdict.

The charges and prospective sentence are almost identical to those initially handed down to Ronaldo's great rival, Barcelona wizard Lionel Messi.

Messi and father Jorge had been sentenced to 21 and 15 months in prison respectively for tax fraud, having failed to pay some €4.1m owed on image rights.

But in July the pair saw their sentences commuted in return for the payment of additional fines.

Other footballers that have fallen foul of Spanish tax authorities in recent years include Manchester United's Alexis Sanchez and former Argentina captain Javier Mascherano.

Lionel Messi makes shock Cristiano Ronaldo confession after World Cup struggles - report

Lionel Messi makes shock Cristiano Ronaldo confession after World Cup struggles - report

LIONEL MESSI has reportedly conceded his Argentina side are weaker than Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.

Lionel Messi missed a penalty in Argentina's draw with Iceland

Cristiano Ronaldo made headlines last night as his stunning hat-trick secured Portugal a 3-3 draw in their World Cup opener with Spain.

Lionel Messi failed to take his chance to make the back pages though as Argentina were held to a 1-1 draw with Iceland with the Barcelona talisman missing a penalty.

And Spanish publication Don Balon claim Messi is angry his chance of securing a sixth Ballon d’Or already appear to be slipping.

With five Ballon d’Or awards each to their name, both will be vying for a record sixth come the end of the year.

Messi won La Liga with Barcelona this season, while Ronaldo won a third consecutive Champions League title with Real Madrid.

Lionel Messi fluffed his lines against Iceland in Argentina's World Cup opener

The result of this year’s award winner could come down to whoever triumphs in the World Cup.

Don Balon say Messi is already conceding defeat in the battle to be crowned the world’s best player because he reportedly believes Portugal have a better team than Argentina.

Speaking after the match Messi said: “The truth is that we can not win the match, add up the three points.

“I think we deserved to win the match, but now it's to follow and think about what's next.

Lionel Messi's rival Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick against Spain

“It hurts to lose the penalty, because it would give us the advantage.

“And getting a difference changes the match, as did not happen in the first goal.

“But we could not keep because they drew fast.”

Messi’s Argentina next play Croatia on Thursday after Ronaldo’s Portugal play Morocco on Wednesday.

Real Madrid beat Liverpool to win Champions League

Real Madrid beat Liverpool to win Champions League

Real Madrid Vs Liverpool

Real Madrid proved once again that they are uniquely made for European final nights but it had a lot to do with early Christmas gifts from Liverpool goalkeeper, Loris Karius, who handed the defending champions two goals.

One goal from Karim Benzema and two from Gareth Bale confirmed Real Madrid as champions of Europe for the 13th time despite an equaliser from Sadio mane in the 55th minute.

After a frenetic start from Liverpool, in which they kept Real Madrid pinned in their own half, it took the shoulder injury to Mohamed Salah to give the Spaniards a foothold in the match. Before the Egyptian left the pitch in tears, Liverpool had attempted eight shots but immediately after he went off, Liverpool were seemingly doused.

They were on the ascendancy toward the end of the first half and took the lead, rather fortuitously in the second half as Karius rolled the ball against Benzema’s outstretched leg.

But it was also Bale’s crowning moment. The Welsh speedster came on in the second half and just seconds later scored a wonder goal, that left everyone watching stunned. Karius then further stunned the crowd as Bale’s speculative shot melted through his fingers.

Real Madrid are champions for a third consecutive time a second time in their history.

Ronaldo breaks silence on his comparison with Mohamed Salah

Ronaldo breaks silence on his comparison with Mohamed Salah

Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah are neck-to-neck on 44 goals this season, but the Real Madrid star thinks any similarity ends there.

The Real Madrid ace maintains there is no point comparing him with the Egyptian attacking maestro, Mo Salah as they are "completely different" players.

The comparison between the two footballers began after the Egyptians stellar performance this season with the Premier League side, Liverpool netting 44 times across all competitions to equal Ronaldo.

Salah has enjoyed a record-breaking first season at Anfield, becoming the first player to score 32 goals in a 38-game Premier League campaign, while he has also netted 11 times in Europe.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, recovered from a difficult first half of 2017-18 to match Salah on 44 goals in all competitions, with 15 of those coming in Madrid's run to a third consecutive Champions League final.

The two forwards will go head to head on Saturday when Jurgen Klopp's side take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev.

Ronaldo insists he shouldn't be compared with Mo Salah as they are different types of forward on the pitch.

"People want to compare me with other players. I'm different than anyone, Salah is different than other ones," he told BT Sport.

"He plays with the left, I play with the right; I'm tall, he's a little bit shorter, I play with the head. We are completely different.

"But, I have to say, he had a fantastic season. Saturday... let's see."

SIR Alex Ferguson is battling for life after being rushed to hospital.

According to The Sun, the legendary former Manchester United boss is set to have surgery after being whisked to Salford Royal Hospital with a police escort on Saturday morning.

A Manchester United spokesman said, “Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage.

“The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery. His family request privacy in this matter.”

The Scot won a staggering 49 trophies in management, including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.

An ambulance was reportedly called to his Cheshire mansion at 9am (on Saturday) before taking him to Macclesfield district hospital.

He was then reportedly transferred with a police escort to the Salford Royal.

It comes after son Darren Ferguson skipped his Doncaster side’s League One match against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

A Doncaster club statement said that “Darren Ferguson will not be at Saturday’s game due to family reasons. Darren asks for privacy, and will provide an update through the club during the week.”

In 2003, Sir Alex was admitted to hospital for a heart irregularity and underwent cardioversion electric shock treatment at the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, near Manchester.

A club statement at the time said that he had “received treatment in hospital following a routine check-up several months ago which revealed a minor heart irregularity… The treatment revealed he has no underlying heart problem.”

What Moreno Has Said About Ronaldo Is What Every Liverpool Fan Is Thinking

What Moreno Has Said About Ronaldo Is What Every Liverpool Fan Is Thinking

Alberto Moreno has brilliantly summed up what every Liverpool fan is thinking right now about Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the Champions League final.

Liverpool are ONE game away from making it SIX European titles.

After beating AS Roma 7-6 on aggregate in a thrilling semi-final, Liverpool have booked a date against Real Madrid in Kiev, Ukraine.

Defending champions Real Madrid will be seeking for an unprecedented third consecutive Champions League triumph, under the famed tutelage of former 'Galactico' Zinedine Zidane.

And the Spanish outfit will be pinning their hopes on Ronaldo to continue his goal scoring heroics in Europe.

He's already chipped in with an impressive 15 goals in Europe's elite competition.

While Moreno will likely feature on the bench versus Real Madrid, he's summed up Liverpool fans thoughts about Ronaldo ahead of May 26th.

"Ahead of the final, if I could, I would erase Cristiano," Moreno jokingly told Cadena Cope via Football Espana.

The Spanish left-back has no words on Liverpool's achievements in the Champions League thus far, before calling the experience 'incredible' while lauding boss Jurgen Klopp.

"I have no words (for Liverpool reaching the final), it is an incredible achievement for us and now we have a trophy in our sights.

"(Liverpool manager Jurgen) Klopp is a very sentimental guy and he definitely has a special connection with this competition," he added.

Real Madrid will be wary of Liverpool's threat including Mohamed Salah, who has been heavily linked with a move to the iconic Santiago Bernabeu.

'The Egyptian King' has bagged 11 goals in Europe, and Moreno is hoping he can produce the goods in the final.

"Salah is an amazing player and has been so important for us this season, we hope he can produce one more special match."

UEFA Accidentally 'Reveal' This Season's Champions League Winners

UEFA Accidentally 'Reveal' This Season's Champions League Winners

sportbible.com is the source

Did man walk on the moon? Who really shot JFK? How did the Russian official see the ball go over the line? Don't we all love a conspiracy theory. Football's latest controversy comes from the UEFA website.

This week saw two extremely exciting Champions League semi-finals come to a close. Real Madrid were fortunate to get the win over Bayern Munich and in the end Liverpool were also fortunate to beat Roma setting up an intriguing final.

It's been one of the oddest and most fun Champions League knock-out stages in a while with Roma's come back against Barca, Juve's near comeback against Real, Manchester United's embarrassment against Sevilla and Liverpool's demolition of Manchester City's defence amongst the highlights.

Now we're down to the final two and on Tuesday night most people were saying that Real's performance was enough to give Liverpool lots of hope but the Reds' own near collapse led people to change their outlook.

Well it seem that everyone else's opinion doesn't matter because the Champions League winners have already been decided by UEFA, according to their website Liverpool are this year's winners:

This really will be one for the conspiracy theorists, especially those who happen to be fans of Los Blancos.

Real Madrid fans already love to suggest that the European football governing body should be renamed UEFALONA for their perceived favouring of Barcelona, although they were on the end of some favourable decisions against Bayern themselves.

When Mo Salah wins a last minute penalty and Jordan Henderson scores to make it 4-3 to Liverpool from the spot on May 26th don't say you weren't warned!

All you need to know about the Nigerian goalkeeper who made history in La Liga on Sunday

All you need to know about the Nigerian goalkeeper who made history in La Liga on Sunday

Uzoho has a huge chance to have a break-out year with both club and country.

Uzoho Francis, a Nigerian goalkeeper made La Liga history on Sunday.

It was an uneventful afternoon on Sunday, October 15 at the Municipal de Ipurua as host Eibar played out a boring colourless goalless draw with visiting Deportivo La Coruña in a La Liga fixture.

The two mid-table La Liga teams had just nine shots on target between them in the game, a true reflection of the dull game.

The Eibar Vs Deportivo La Coruña stats  (Soccer Punter)

But sometimes you have to go through the rough to get the diamond and from this game, history was made.

The Eibar and Deportivo La Coruna’s game has dominated the Nigerian sports media since Sunday because of 18-year-old goalkeeper Uzoho Francis.

Uzoho Francis made his debut for Deportivo La Coruña on Sunday  (Twitter/La Liga)

Uzoho made his debut for Deportivo in the game, keeping a clean sheet to help his side get a point away from home.

He didn’t have much to do in the game especially in the first half when Deportivo dominated play. But he also showed impressive composure and attention in the game.

He did that very well, guarding his near-post very well to save a shot from the corner of his box in the 12th minute.

He had to wait until the 72nd minute before his next save, calmly collecting a tame shot. In the 80th minute, he showed how decent he was, staying on his toes during a corner kick to quickly dive to catch a shot from the edge of his 18-yard-box.

He was beaten in added time but the Eibar goal was rightly ruled out to be offside.

Uzoho Francis was impressive in he game and kept a clean sheet for Deportivo La Coruña

It was a record-making appearance for the Nigerian who became the youngest foreign goalkeeper to debut in the La Liga.

With the number of legendary non-Spanish goalkeepers we have seen in La Liga history,Uzoho’ achievement is a huge one.

A day that will never disappear from my memory,” Uzoho said about his debut.

Where it all started

Uzoho’s professional football career came to prominence when he was included in the Golden Eaglets squad for the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Uzoho Francis was part of the Golden Eaglets squad that won the 2013 U-17 FIFA World Cup although the goalkeeper didn't play in an game  (Getty Images)

He was with the team which had the likes of Kelechi IheanachoIsaac Success and Dele Alampasu. These talented youngsters led Nigeria to the title.

Uzoho, however, did not play in any game at the World Cup and was Golden Eaglets third goalkeeper at the tournament. He only made the cut following the injury to Adeyinka Adewale who was the first choice when Nigeria finished second at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) earlier in the year.

Deportivo La Coruna

While the likes of Alampasu continued to be in the local limelight, Uzoho had been quiet since his sojourn with the Golden Eaglets in 2013.

He was with the famous Aspire Academy in Qatar before he signed for Deportivo La Coruna in 2016.

Uzoho Francis joined Deportivo

After a year with the youth team, Uzoho is gradually making his way into the first team and his impressive La Liga debut could fasten the process.

Following the exit of German Lux this summer, Deportivo La Coruna manager Pepe Mel is still without a first choice goalkeeper.

Deportivo La Coruña manager Pepe Mel has not decided on his first choice goalkeeper for this season

He surprised everyone by naming Uzoho in the starting XI against Eibar with former Manchester City goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon -who is on loan from Watford- settling for a place on the bench.

Przemysław Tytoń was not named for the game while Ruben Martinez is currently injured.

Super Eagles chance

Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr has similar problems in his goalkeeper’s unit. With his first choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme out indefinitely as he continues to battle acute leukaemia, no one has held down the No 1. shirt.

Daniel Akepeyi’s pitiable outing against South Africa in June meant he is not reliable enough and while FC IfeanyiUbah goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa has impressed in three games for the Super Eagles,  he is still very culpable of making rash decisions. Ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Rohr’s goalkeeping options are very open.

With Carl Ikeme out for an extended time, Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr has not decided on his first choice goalkeeper

These uncertainties in the goalkeeping units at both club and country present Uzoho with a huge chance to have his break-out year.

Despite his impressive outing against Eibar, he faces an uphill task to hold down the No. 1 jersey at Deportivo La Coruna.

If he manages to do that, then he will surely be on the Super Eagles plane to Russia.
