Ronaldo breaks silence on his comparison with Mohamed Salah

Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah are neck-to-neck on 44 goals this season, but the Real Madrid star thinks any similarity ends there.

The Real Madrid ace maintains there is no point comparing him with the Egyptian attacking maestro, Mo Salah as they are "completely different" players.

The comparison between the two footballers began after the Egyptians stellar performance this season with the Premier League side, Liverpool netting 44 times across all competitions to equal Ronaldo.

Salah has enjoyed a record-breaking first season at Anfield, becoming the first player to score 32 goals in a 38-game Premier League campaign, while he has also netted 11 times in Europe.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, recovered from a difficult first half of 2017-18 to match Salah on 44 goals in all competitions, with 15 of those coming in Madrid's run to a third consecutive Champions League final.

The two forwards will go head to head on Saturday when Jurgen Klopp's side take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev.

Ronaldo insists he shouldn't be compared with Mo Salah as they are different types of forward on the pitch.

"People want to compare me with other players. I'm different than anyone, Salah is different than other ones," he told BT Sport.

"He plays with the left, I play with the right; I'm tall, he's a little bit shorter, I play with the head. We are completely different.

"But, I have to say, he had a fantastic season. Saturday... let's see."

According to the report, the car is a zero-emissions, battery-electric-powered version of the 1968 car with LED headlamps. It was built between 1961 and 1975, the E-Type was described by Enzo Ferrari as ‘the most beautiful car in the world’. This model is said to be worth £350,000

Former Nigerian striker son Ade Akinbiyi joins Premier League side Liverpool according to club official webpage.

Remi Parle-Akinbiyi was unveiled as a player of Liverpool last week alongside England international Trent Alexander-Arnold and the whizkid will play for their U9 team in the 2018-2019 season and hope to emulate his dad.

Akinbiyi was born in London but qualified to play for the Super Eagles through his parents and earned his only cap in a 2-0 defeat to Greece in an international friendly on November 13, 1999.

Akinbiyi started his career with Norwich City before moving to Premier League new boys Wolverhampton Wanderers and become Leicester City's record signing when he joined the clubs in 1999 and 2000 respectively.

Akinbyi also featured for Stoke City, Burnley, Sheffield United, Houston Dynamo, Notts County and Colwyn Bay where he went on to notch 152 goals in 562 appearances in all competitions during his playing days.

Fans of martial arts superstar Jet Li Lianjie are praying for his health after shocking recent photos revealed the extent of his hyperthyroidism and spinal problems.

The Hollywood icon, who starred in Lethal Weapon 4, Romeo Must Die and more recently, Expendables 2, revealed five years ago he has been suffering from hyperthyroidism.

A recent photo of him visiting a temple in Tibet has been widely circulated with many people taken aback by Li’s frail appearance. The photo also showed he had to be assisted while he walked.

Last year, the 55-year-old Beijing-born actor spoke about his illness after a long absence from the public eye at One Foundation’s charity dinner in the Chinese capital.

The actor then said he had been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid in 2010 and although he took medication that kept his illness in check, the condition kept coming back.

Hyperthyroidism causes changes in a person’s metabolism and heart rate and is usually treated through medication. Li says his strong belief in Buddhism as well as meditation and scripture reading help stabilise his condition.

The action star also said a few years ago that he was unable to perform stressful physical activities due to his condition.

He revealed he had been warned by doctors in 2013 that he “would end up in a wheelchair” if he continued making physically-demanding action films.

He said at the time: “I’m just a regular guy. I’m not Wong Fei-hung. I’m not Huo Yuanjia [kung fu heroes he has portrayed on film]. I’m just like you.”

The star of the breakout Chinese classic Once Upon a Time in China said he was also suffering from leg and spinal problems and that he was unable to stand straight for too long, his poor health the result of decades of demanding film roles, stunts and injuries.

He has been making films since he burst onto the scene as a former national wushu champion while in his teens in the late 1970s.

Li suffered his first major injury at 18 when he tore his knee that required seven-and-a-half hours of surgery. He also sustained a serious back injury at 23.

Netizens were shocked by his recent appearance in Tibet after the photo made the rounds on social media, drawing many comments, mostly of concern for his well-being.

“He was so active before and now he looks like an old man”, said one Chinese netizen.

“His kung fu is real and his films were great. Pity he’s suffering from this illness”, said another.

“I couldn’t even recognise him”, added another netizen.

A Neurologist with Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Dr. Nura Alkali, has tried to explain what happened to the Inspector General of Police as he couldn’t read his speech in a video that has gone viral since yesterday.

Dr. Nura Alkali explained on Facebook that, “Having watched the IGP Idris speech video, I can only conclude that he had a brain block. What caused it I cannot tell, since I lack his medical history. But I suspect one of three possibilities: Severe emotional stress, a non-motor seizure, or transient global amnesia.

“He is certainly not dyslexic, after all, he has read public speeches flawlessly in the past. And from available evidence, the video was not doctored. I advise the IGP to see an experienced neurologist or psychiatrist, who should also watch the video.”

Dr. Nura Alkali also added that, “Some of us find it hard to believe that a medical condition can make a speech sound like a “broken record”. Well, one of such causes is transient global amnesia (TGA)

“The main sign of TGA is being temporarily unable to form new memories. This is called prominent anterograde amnesia. During the episode of TGA, the person will seem disoriented in time and often ask questions about the date or their environment over and over again. This may be described as the person sounding like a “broken record.” ”

Others have argued that the IG of Police may be on some hard drugs in a country where drug use is commonplace among big men, who use these drugs because of the hectic job they do all round the clock.

Davido had replied to the tweet mentioning Tiwa’s name an indication that he was privy to the viral rumours about Wizkid’s and Tiwa’s affair.

Although Tiwa had responded to the tweet in a playful manner, a follow up has shown that she really didn’t find Davido’s tweet funny for tweeting about her.

Right now both top entertainers are no longer following each other on Instagram and it is not clear who left first.

While his second daughter, DJ Cuppy and third daughter, Temi Otedola who is a fashion blogger, are well known in the media, his first daughter, Olawumi, and his only son, and last child, Fewakeep things private.

Last year, during World Autism Day on the 2nd April, Temi Otedola shared a personal story on her JTO Fashion blog about living with autism with her younger brother, Fewa.

She started off by saying “Autism Awareness day was launched 9 years ago to raise awareness and conversation about the people living with autism around the globe. with this in mind, I have decided to share my own personal experience with autism.”

Talking about how her parents told them about her brother, she says:

In 2004, my mum called my sisters and me into her bedroom. With the composure only a mother can have, she told us that our baby brother, Fewa, had ‘special needs’. While my sisters asked questions, all I could do was think about what this would mean for me, the already overindulged, youngest of three girls. Thankfully, my selfishness quickly wore off and Fewa quickly became the centre of our family. The role of an older sister always entails some sort of responsibility. However, the role of an older sister to an autistic sibling is a great deal more work. At first, it seemed like every day with him was a challenge, especially for my mother. I remember seeing my mum helping Fewa with simple tasks like brushing his teeth, helping him to get dressed, or feeding him lunch, with each day ultimately ending in exhaustion. Our family has been so blessed to have help from carers, but no one can deny the resilience my mother has had raising Fewa. It is the thing I most respect about her.

On her brother, she says:

Every day, I see him becoming more independent. Our relationship is becoming less one-sided; I can truly say that we are friends. Fewa doesn’t need anyone’s sympathy. He is the most genuine and caring person I know. This is probably why I have never seen Fewa’s autism as necessarily and totally negative, it is a unique characteristic that adds to the complexity of the person that he is

I am not naïve or unrealistic. I certainly have some gnawing worries about the future. Fewa will always need support of some kind. At age sixteen he still requires 24 hour help. I would say that the biggest misconception about autism is that people who have it are socially inept geniuses – Rainman, anyone? Yes, that is true for some autistic people, but there is a reason the official term is “autism spectrum disorder”. It is a spectrum, and it can range from children who are not able to speak at all to children who can go to normal schools.

On coping with Fewa’s autism, she says:

No matter what I do, I need to build my life with Fewa in mind. My parents won’t be around forever, and his care and well-being will become the responsibility of me and my sisters. It is true that consideration for Fewa will always affect the decisions I make in my life. Despite this, Fewa is by no means a burden. These worries do not reduce the immense love I have for my brother who has brought so much joy and shown me the purest form of love. To quote The Bard, “Love sought is good, but given unsought is better.” It is Fewa’s unconditional love that has shaped me into the woman I am today – a sister, a teacher, a carer and a best friend.

He is a Border Tribesman (uncredited) in the Black Panther.

Sola Aluko was part of the cast in the popular movie Pitch Perfect 2. The Nigerian-born mother of two speaks four languages including her native language, Yoruba. She has two degrees in marketing and engineering and also studied Drama education at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) and has performed at the National Arts Theatre in Lagos, Nigeria.

She has acted in The Good Lie, 96 minutes and Identity Thief. She plays the role of Shaman.

Not much is known about Opegbemi. He played the role of a Club Patron in the TV series, Empire, in 2017. He is a Jabari Warrior in Black Panther

His refusal to come down prompted the judge, Justice Adedayo Akintoye, to order the prison warders to bring him into the courtroom.

He was later forced to come down and handcuffed into the courtroom and led to the dock.

In the dock, Evans raised his hand and told the judge that he had something to say.

When he was allowed to speak, the suspected kidnapper said, ”I have an explanation to make. Since I have been in the maximum prison, they have been maltreating me; no visit, they don’t feed me well. I have an eye problem and I cannot see far.”

But his claims were denied by the warder from Kirikiri Maximum Prison.

“We have been treating him very well, he is well fed, and people have been visiting him. A doctor has been checking him. The doctor came to check him yesterday (Sunday) and even this morning before coming to court,” the warder said.

“He was saying he can’t be in court that he is not feeling fine, but when the doctor checked him yesterday and this morning, the doctor said he was healthy and that he sees no reason why he can’t be in court.”

Evans is facing trial alongside Joseph Emeka, Linus Okpara and Victor Aduba on two counts of conspiracy and unlawful capture.

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a contact committee for the purpose of aligning with other political parties ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The committee, which is headed by a former governor of Cross River State, Mr. Liyel Imoke, will also explore the possibility of tinkering with the name and insignia of the PDP.

Some key stakeholders, particularly prominent chieftains of the PDP that defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014, are said to have insisted on a change of name, as one of the conditions to rejoin the PDP.

Prominent among the APC chieftains being wooed by the leadership of PDP include the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki; former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; his Sokoto State counterpart, Aliyu Wamakko; and former Gombe State Governor, Danjuma Goje.

Overtures are also being made to woo the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. Tambuwal had defected from the PDP to the APC at the tail end of his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Investigation further revealed that the high-profile politicians are being wooed with tickets for choice offices, including the presidential slot.

But the heavy baggage of corruption trailing the PDP has made it difficult for prospective defectors to cross over from the APC and other political parties.

A prominent chieftain of the PDP confided in our correspondent yesterday that the major task of the committee is to make wide consultations regarding the propriety or otherwise of name change.

The source, who did not want to be named said, “Yes, we are seriously concerned about the issue of name change, as being demanded by some of the intending returnees.

“But I must let you know that not all of them are assisting on name change because they can see through the veil of deception in the APC government’s anti-corruption campaign”.

Our correspondent further gathered that the leadership and key stakeholders in the PDP may have narrowed the search for the party’s presidential flag bearer to only two individuals -a serving governor and a serving senator from the same geopolitical zone.

The two politicians are believed to have enough political clout to challenge President Muhammadu Buhari’s pre-2015 cult-like followership, particularly among the masses in the Northwest geopolitical zone.

While inaugurating the committee yesterday, the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, said the party would do everything within the confines of the law to regain power in 2019.

Secondus said the past three years of President Buhari’s administration had convinced Nigerians of the need for a credible alternative in 2019.

The party chair tasked members of the committee to reach out to Nigerians and groups on the need to forge a common front for what he described as the “political salvation” of the country.

Secondus said: “Just as your name connotes, you are to deploy your well-versed network to help open the space and allow into our party, all those whose union with us can help in rescuing this country.

“Like we always say in this party, this umbrella is big enough to accommodate all people of patriotic ideals”.

Imoke promised to work tirelessly to deliver on the mandate, stating that the situation in the country had become too dangerous for well-meaning Nigerians to fold their hands in resignation.

Other members of the committee include former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido; his Niger State counterpart, Babangida Aliyu; and former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam.

Others a former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Orhii; former Aviation Minister, Kema Chikwe; and a former National Chairman of the PDP, Bello Haliru Mohammed, among others.

Headies 2018 was held on Saturday night, 5th May 2018 and hours after the awards have been concluded, the dust from the performances and announcement of winners is yet unsettled.

Despite the heavy downpour earlier in the day, the awards which is largely regarded as Nigeria's most prestigious music event witnessed a large turnout and constellation of stars.

The event which was held at the Convention centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, began with a red carpet which preceded the main awards.

Coming off the back of a period in review where Nigerian music broke the boundaries with artists like Wizkid and Davido, and the emergence of new sounds from the Pon Ponto the trending Shaku Shaku vibe. The task before the organizers of the awards was quite huge and they had to deliver.

For yet another year running, the organisers ran a live feed via its cable and online channels for viewers from home to be a part of the event.

After some delays, the award finally commenced with an opening performance from a dance troupe.

Cometh the hour, cometh the hosts, with comedian Bovi walked on stage in company of co-host Seyi Shay who was stunning in her gown, as they officially welcomed the guests and opened proceedings on the night.

Falz kicked off performances at the 12th edition of the Headies Music awards, coming on stage on a power bike and delivering an exhilarating act that got everyone in the audience cheering and anticipating an electric sequence of events.

Other performances on the night include Simi, Mr Real, who got everyone doing the Legbegbe, Niniola, Danfo Drivers andZulezoo brought nostalgic memories to the crowd, Mayorkun, Maleek Berry, Johnny Drille, Tiwa Savage and Davido giving this year's event the much needed thrilling jolts and compelling renditions at intervals that kept the over three-and-a-half-hour show from devolving into a slog.

Going into the night, much was anticipated with the major categories and it didn't disappoint.

DMW boss, Davido swept the night's biggest categories for Song of the year, Artist of the year and Best Pop Single.

Simi won Best Album, Best Recording and Best RnB Single, while Wizkid was crowned with Best RnB/Pop album and Viewers' choice.

Other winners on the night were Mayorkunwinning the Next Rated category and going home with a car, M.I Abaga for Lyricist on the roll and Best rap song, Yemi Alade for Best Performer, Tiwa Savage for Best Collabo, Kiddominant for Best Producer, Daps won Best Video for Come Closer, Tenifor Rookie of the year and many others.

The night belonged to Davido as he was easily the apolitical choice, singles like 'If', 'Fall' and 'Fia' had sealed his legacy in 2017 and the plaques were the hypothetical triumph of his efforts.

The Headies had its compelling moments, the production was top notch but it was not without it usual hiccups as most artists who won awards on the night were not on stage to receive their plaques.

At th end of the 12th edition, the Headies have done enough to justify its place as Nigeria's most prestigious awards yet again, everyone was heartily entertained, winners were largely deserving and it was another night of triumph for Nigerian music.

The All Progressives Congress has suspended its governorship primary, following an outbreak of violence.

This was made known via a Facebook post by the Special Assistnat Public Communications & New Media at Ekiti State Government of Nigeria, Mr. Lere Olayinka.

Our correspondent has reported earlier that some persons suspected to be thugs had invaded the venue of the primary where they smashed a ballot box on the ground, scattering the contents.

It was gathered that the attack caught the policemen at the venue by surprise.

The News Agency of Nigeria quoted the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as saying up to 30 candidates are contesting in the governorship primary, out of which one individual will emerge as the APC flagbearer in the governorship election coming un in July.

Ekiti State is currently being ruled by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and two former students of ex-Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson in Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham have led messages of support for their ex-boss who underwent emergency surgery on Saturday for a brain haemorrhage.

Ferguson, the most successful manager in Manchester United's history was taken in intensive care after the said emergency surgery was performed on him amid an outpouring of affection and get-well messages from across football.

A statement by Manchester United said the procedure had gone very well but that their former employee needed a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery.

Amid the outpouring of support and get well wishes are two standout names in Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham – who Ferguson helped make into household names and Drogba who played severally against Fergie's side during his time at Chelsea.

The 76-year old retired manager stepped down as United manager in May 2013 after winning 38 trophies during 26 years in charge. He was at Old Trafford last Sunday when he presented Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger with a commemorative trophy.

SIR Alex Ferguson is battling for life after being rushed to hospital.

According to The Sun, the legendary former Manchester United boss is set to have surgery after being whisked to Salford Royal Hospital with a police escort on Saturday morning.

A Manchester United spokesman said, “Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage.

“The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery. His family request privacy in this matter.”

The Scot won a staggering 49 trophies in management, including 13 Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.

An ambulance was reportedly called to his Cheshire mansion at 9am (on Saturday) before taking him to Macclesfield district hospital.

He was then reportedly transferred with a police escort to the Salford Royal.

It comes after son Darren Ferguson skipped his Doncaster side’s League One match against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

A Doncaster club statement said that “Darren Ferguson will not be at Saturday’s game due to family reasons. Darren asks for privacy, and will provide an update through the club during the week.”

In 2003, Sir Alex was admitted to hospital for a heart irregularity and underwent cardioversion electric shock treatment at the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, near Manchester.

A club statement at the time said that he had “received treatment in hospital following a routine check-up several months ago which revealed a minor heart irregularity… The treatment revealed he has no underlying heart problem.”
