SEE GOBE: Naija Lady Gives Her Lover 280k to Marry Her, but He Got Another Girl Pregnant

SEE GOBE: Naija Lady Gives Her Lover 280k to Marry Her, but He Got Another Girl Pregnant

Any relationship where money is the focal point will collapse like a park of cards, only a matter of time.

29yrs old Chukwuemeka Obodozie has been arrested and charged before a Magistrate’s court sitting in Ejigbo, Lagos, for allegedly obtaining N280,000 from his lover, Ogechi Obinma, under the false pretence that he would engage her and they get married.

The money was said to be part of their bargain to get married. But why did she fall so cheaply?

According to Ogechi, Chukwuemeka told her he needed money to clear goods that his elder brother sent to him from abroad, to enable them perform an introduction and traditional marriage. Unknown to her, Chukwuemeka had perfected plans to dump her and marry the woman he had already impregnated.

When Ogechi later went to his house, she saw a woman heavily pregnant and when she asked to know who she was, Chukwuemeka confessed that he impregnated the woman and needed money to take care of her and that was why he demanded the money from her.

He asked her to forget the money and see it as a prize she had to pay for their relationship that lasted for over two years. Ogechi accepted her fate but requested that Chukwuemeka paid her money in full as she would not be responsible for the finance of his marriage.

When she insisted, Chukwuemeka reportedly threatened to kill her, he threatened her at her house and office in Ikotun area of Lagos.

The matter was reported to the police at Ikotun and Chukwuemeka was arrested and charged to court with obtaining money under false pretence and threat to life.

When he was arraigned, as usual he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E Adeyemi granted Chukwuemeka bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case has been adjourned till April 18, 2016.

Oops, biting my thumbs,Cynthia Morgan goes back to taking cabs after losing her Range Rover to thieves

Jude Okoye's signee, Cynthia Morgan, whose white Range Rover automobile was stolen few weeks ago, now moves around in taxis, Naij reports.
A source revealed to Naij that, at the moment, she is quite down psychologically and emotionally. She has also decided to be indoors, keeping to herself most of the time.
.
.
The source was quoted as saying: “But if it is important for her to go out, she takes taxis. I actually understand her grief because she said goodbye to that club barely six months ago when the Range Rover arrived, but she is back to square one now. It hurts everybody.”
.
.
The car was allegedly stolen about two weeks ago from a compound in Omole Phase1. The driver, who was later arrested by Cynthia, was the first to report the theft incident at Grammar School police station, Ojodu, Lagos. Efforts to recover it have so far proven abortive. Cynthia was away in Abuja as at the time of the theft.

Please anyone with her contact to tell her I got a Grand Cherokee jeep 1994 model at a very affordable price.

Convicted Boko Haram members can't be sentenced to death- Mallam Abubakar Malami

The Attorney General of the Federation, Mallam Abubakar Malami, who was represented by Sylvester Imahanobe at the launch of amnesty’s report on Global Death Sentences and Executions 2015, in Abuja, yesterday said that convicted Boko Haram members could not be sentenced to death because they were tried under the Terrorism Prevention Act.

 He said:

“Terrorists in Nigeria are tried under the Terrorism Prevention Act which does not carry death penalty. That is why even those Boko Haram members, who have been convicted cannot be executed because the maximum sentence prescribed by the law is life sentence.”

He said they are willing to support whatever bill Amnesty International proposes in regards to the abolition of death sentence because according to him, studies conducted have shown that the death penalty has not stopped people from committing crimes.

He also said that they are working towards making sure that the prison system was corrective and not punitive.

Saraki made 18 cash deposits of $10,000 into his bank account in one day – EFCC detective

Wizkid royal rumbles with Linda Ikeji

Wizkid royal rumbles with Linda Ikeji

Oh no, she didn’t!!! In new article posted on her blog, Linda Ikeji responded to Wizkid calling her an old, ugly bitch among other things.

She did not hold back and even spilled even more tea about the “25 year old” singer.

She started out lowkey saying,

So my darling little ‘friend’ Wizkid came on my IG page this morning to blast me for writing yesterday that he was given quit notice at the Lekki home he claimed he bought some years ago, which he actually rented. He threatened to beat me up…called me an ugly old bitch…(I’m ugly? lol) says I don’t have a man (crying over that..) and called my mum a loser…(what a child).

Anyway, all that don’t matter, people have said worse to me…what I wanted to address is the part where he said I slept with his director and he left me in a hotel…that one I will definitely want to address because some people actually believe it. That my dear friends, is a lie!

She then went on to emphasize that she has had no contact with Wizkid before nor anybody affiliated with him. She says she keeps from entertainers altogether and is mostly celibate ().

First and foremost, I’ve never met Wizkid one on one. I’ve only seen him once in real life on stage at a show a few years ago. I’ve never met anybody who is his director. Guess he put that line in his comments to defame me. You that mad that people now know the house is not yours? Lol.

Trust me, if I knew someone was Wizkid’s director, I’d rather kill myself than sleep with him or any other entertainer for that matter (except maybe he’s my husband..hehe) because I know how some of these entertainers are…they kiss and tell a lot. You can’t afford to be messing around in their circle. So, no, I have NEVER slept with Wizkid’s director. I live a celibate life..most of the time. (Though, that has to end soon…I’m getting old and missing out on that part of life…lol)

I’ve always been an advocate of women respecting their bodies and owning their own. And I feel sex should only happen when you’re in committed relationship (that is if you can’t wait till marriage) and I recommend celibacy for a long as you’re not committed to someone. There’s absolutely no dignity in sleeping around and messing around with different men. It’s ugly and God don’t like ugly. So no, I’m not that woman, and will never be that woman. Nice try, Wizkid!

After clearing that, she then went further to expose more details of her and Wizkid’s interesting relationship. According to her, Wizkid even tried reaching out to her with an olive branch but she didn’t bite since she has no problem with him.

Having said that, I’m sure, you wonder why Wizkid is so mad at me? To be honest, I don’t know either. All I know is that his beef with me started a long time ago but he decided to start bashing me online after I refused a meeting with him. A few months ago, he asked his PR people to contact me, that he wanted to talk to me. For some reason, he thought I didn’t like him and I was hurting his image online. He wanted to see how I could write more positive things about him but I turned down the meeting. Not that I have anything against him, I sincerely don’t! I think he’s an amazing talent and one of the few music stars in Nigeria with a midas touch. So this wasn’t personal. I just didn’t want to meet him. If he lobbies me then it means I won’t be able to write anything about him anymore…and my job is to write…about everything, including entertainers.

I am cordial with some of them…many of them I have never met. I try to stay away from gatherings where they are because the more friends you make in the entertainment industry, the less you can write. And that will inadvertently affect your work. The few ones that I call acquaintances, it’s hard to write about them because you feel you’re cool with them and even when you write, they call you to complain. So, the fewer ‘friends’ I have in the entertainment industry, the better my job will be.

So Wizkid can bash me all he wants…but I will continue to do my job. Maybe he thinks the more he bashes me, then I will stop writing about him? Won’t work. But meanwhile, if he tells a lie about me, I will address it. LIB plans to be around for a long time…some of these people will come and go! :-).

Thanks everyone and Wizkid’s fans for reading my response.

Then as if that was not enough, Linda fired off more shots by announcing that Wizkid’s luxury car does not belong to him either! Then fired off one last parting shot.

Oh and by the way, did I mention that his Porsche car is also on hire purchase? Oh shit, I just mentioned that! And no, darling, you’re not 25! We know your real age! Continue to have an amazing career while I watch and continue to celebrate you.
Kisses

So there it is, wide out in the open. What do you make of all these revelations?

(Photos)Mother Admits To Sleeping With 15 Yr Old Son, They Have A Baby Together

(Photos)Mother Admits To Sleeping With 15 Yr Old Son, They Have A Baby Together

This is unbelievable ..Read what this woman wrote this on her facebook page

“For those who don’t know, me and my 15 year old son had a baby last year together. I had sex with him when he was 14 years old. The baby came out fine. Just to let you know, I also have three (3) daughters who are thirteen (13), fourteen (14), and sixteen (16).
My son is a great dad and also a great boyfriend to me.
This all started when I realized that I started to get feelings for him I decided to have a one and one talk with him. I told him “mommy loves you more than what it means to just be a mommy to you”. I also told him that “mommy likes you just like how a girl from school likes you.
I explained everything to him and got him to understand and he felt the same way as I did as he began to ask questions. He asked “so does that mean that we can kiss and hold hands like boyfriend and girlfriend?” I told him yes and even sex

Buhari may be Nigeria's President, but these are 7 powerful People He cannot 'touch' (Photos)

Buhari may be Nigeria's President, but these are 7 powerful People He cannot 'touch' (Photos)

President Muhammadu Buhari may be the most powerful person in Nigeria by virtue of his position, however, there are some people he holds in high esteem.

For this reason, many have insisted that the president cannot touch these people regardless of whatever wrong the Nigerian public has associated their names with.

These people, also, are part of the shakers and movers of the Nigerian political scene, although occasionally from the background, they are behind certain decisions made by President Buhari (which Nigerians get to see).

NAIJ.com has compiled a list of seven such people and present them below:

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo

Touted as one of Nigeria’s strongest politicians ever, Obasanjo, a former Nigerian president, is one of the ‘untouchable’ Nigerians in this age.

Despite the fact that many calls have been made by many Nigerians and different groups for the probe of the former military ruler, he has never for once been invited for questioning by the anti-graft agencies over any form of misappropriation.

He has also been within the corridors of power since he became Nigeria’s democratically-elected president in 1999. Chief Obasanjo, a respected Ogun high chief, has also parleyed with every president who has emerged he left the post.

Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo wants Nigerians to shun violence and embrace peace.

Major General Abdulsalami Abubakar

His eleven-month rule over Nigeria (from June 1998-May 1999), especially because of the manner in which he relinquished power to a civilian, has earned him a legendary status in Nigeria.

Whether or not he is guilty of any form of corrupt act, Abdulsalami has overseen many of the conflict resolution committees in the country, and was also reportedly among those who aided ex-president Goodluck Jonathan in making that invaluable call to President Muhammadu Buhari to concede defeat in last year’s presidential election.

And despite the fact that his name has been consistently mentioned in the infamous Halliburton scandal, there has not been any reason for him to be invited over for questioning.

Abdulsalami Abubakar says national untiy needed to help the govt fight Boko Haram.

Ex-president Goodluck Jonathan

Nigeria’s former president’s administration has been termed the most corrupt in the country’s history, this is no longer news, but  Nigerians have been stunned that he is yet to be invited by the anti-graft.

Such was the corruption under his administration that The Economist referred to him as anineffectual buffoon for watching his ministers and cronies swindle monies under his watchful eyes.

The reason for this is not far fetched, he is one of the most powerful Nigerians who remain untouchable for the present Nigerian president.

Unconfirmed sources revealed that one of the reasons he made that call to President Buhari after losing the March 2015 presidential election, was because he had been promised a soft-landing as soon as he relinquishes power smoothly.

After his loss, he has been invited to countless events, where he has been asked to mentor upcoming leaders, as well as other African leaders on peace and conflict resolution.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar

One of those fingered in the Halliburton case, Nigeria’s former vice president is surely one of the most powerful Nigerians in this generation.

He is not just one of the stakeholders in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku ranks as one of those who make decisions in the northern part of the country.

There were even reports that there was friction between him and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the 2019 presidency, as he was believed to have started parleying with some of his loyalists to take over from President Buhari.

But, in spite of all the claims made against Atiku, President Buhari is said to hold him in high esteem and cannot seem to find any fault against him.

Atiku is also one of the many philanthropic Nigerians, and this gesture has endeared him to many.

Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar is surely a powerful Nigerian.

General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida

Another name mentioned in the infamous Halliburton Scandal, General Babangida is another Nigerian who remains ever powerful.

Fondly referred to as ‘Maradona’, the former Military president has been acting behind the scene since he left office in 1993.

He is mostly famous in the Nigerian political sphere for his annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential which late Moshood Kashimawo Abiola was believed to have won among other corruption allegations.

Many groups and bodies have called for his probe as they believe his regime was the most corrupt of all former Nigerian military heads, but like others on this list, he remains one of those President Buhari is yet to invite for questioning.

Perhaps, a day is coming when the Halliburton scandal would be reopened and he would be mentioned for questioning. But at the moment, he remains an untouchable political figure operating from the background.

Even Wikipedia refers to him as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Ex-military president, Ibrahim Babangida is also among those fingered in the Halliburton scandal.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The Jagaban of Borgu, as he is fondly called, is arguably the most powerful politician in the country at this moment.

The former two-term governor of Lagos state and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), almost single-handedly oversaw the ouster of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general elections and has attained a legendary status in the country (especially among Yorubas) ever since.

But, then, he has been plagued with series of controversial allegations.

Many believe that he has many skeletons in his cupboard, but then he has never been convicted of committing any corrupt act.

He remains one of the shakers of Nigeria’s economy and about the greatest decision maker in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) despite the fact that he is only a national leader of the party.

Some Nigerians even believe that he is as strong as President Buhari or even stronger.

Rotimi Amaechi

He is touted as the Lion of Niger Delta, Rotimi Amaechi is one of Nigeria’s most rugged politicians.

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers state, is Nigeria’s minister of transport, having gone through a stern screening session at the National Assembly.

His screening was postponed severally because there were reports of corruption allegations against him from certain quarters in his native Rivers state, but when it eventually held, Amaechi noted publicly that he had never collected bribe in his life.

President Buhari had been asked to probe the former Speaker of the Rivers state House of Assembly, for corruption as many also believe he dug into the state’s coffers to ensure the APC won the last general elections, a major reason sources say the president cannot probe him.

About two weeks ago, there was violence in the Niger Delta state and Amaechi was in the state and allegedly contributed to the malpractice in the election.

Yet, the president still rates him as one of his most trusted allies, especially within the APC caucus. Maybe the former governor would be invited for questioning in the coming months, but as things stand now, President Buhari cannot still touch him.

Rotimi Amaechi is regarded as the Lion of Niger Delta.

Do you agree with this list? Any addition or subtraction?

101-YEAR-OLD WOMAN GIVES BIRTH AFTER SUCCESSFUL OVARY TRANSPLANT

101-YEAR-OLD WOMAN GIVES BIRTH AFTER SUCCESSFUL OVARY TRANSPLANT

January 7th, 2016 | by Bob Flanagan

NAPOLI | Anatolia Vertadella, a 101-year-old Italian woman, has given birth to a 9-pound baby after a controversial ovary transplant widely criticized by medical professionals because of her advanced age, reports the Rivista Napoli.

The illegal and controversial surgical operation was done in a private clinic in Turkey, where European laws on ovary transplants do not apply, admits the centennial mother who does not wish to disclose the name of the clinic where the operation was undertaken.

“I am very grateful to all the team of doctors who decided to go on with the operation,” she admitted in tears. “I am so grateful to have given birth to my 17th child. This is a true blessing and a testament to the power of the creator,” she told local reporters.

“For so long I have felt useless to God, I could not procreate since I turned 48 years old when I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. For a long time I believed God was punishing me for only bearing 16 children, but in his godly generosity, he has granted me with fertility once again,” acknowledges the century-old fervent Catholic.

Dr. Alexandro Popolicchi fully endorses the controversial ovary transplant, which is deemed illegal under European health laws, and which was undertaken in a private clinic in Turkey where such laws do not apply

God’s gift

Although he admits the procedure is highly controversial, Dr. Popolicchi believes the ultimate decision  was up to his patient to make.

“Who am I to judge if it is the proper thing to do? She has given birth to a beautiful baby and this miraculous birth is definitely a gift from God!” he told reporters. “The operation was completely legal in Turkey and undertaken by a handful of expert surgeons. The lady is in great health for her age and I predict she has still a many good years in front of her to share with her child. So many children are born in this world unwanted or by accident. Is it not a beautiful thing to know this child comes to life in a loving home?” he asked reporters.

An anonymous father

Although Miss Vertadella’s husband has passed away since 1998, the century-old widow has managed to find a sperm donor to make the birth possible.

“I met Francesco’s father on the internet while trying to find a father to my child. This 26-year-old man is a Catholic and that is all that is important to me. I wanted my child to be born in a union sanctified by the Catholic church. I know we are not married and that he will not play a part in Francesco’s life, but I have written to the pope to ask his absolution. I have also named my child after the pope in his honor and so I believe he should find a place in his heart to forgive me in this particular situation. I still love my deceased husband and desire to stay a widow until I leave this earth, but I needed the seed of this young fervent Catholic to fulfill God’s will,” she explained.

Malegwale Ramokgopa allegedly gave birth to her 25th and 26th child in 1931 at the venerable age of 92

The world’s oldest mother was previously believed to be Malegwale Ramokgopa, a woman born in South Africa in 1839 who allegedly gave birth to twins three days after celebrating her 92nd anniversary on October 3, 1931, which made nation-wide headlines at the time.

THE PASTOR WHO BURIED HUMANS ALIVE IN HIS FOUNDATION HAS BEEN APPREHENDED

THE PASTOR WHO BURIED HUMANS ALIVE IN HIS FOUNDATION HAS BEEN APPREHENDED

What you seem to see here is not a faux but what really happened . You  can run but you can't hide because God does His things in mysterious ways.

The pastor who used human bodies lined up as part of his church foundation has finally been apprehended. I at times wonder what the dead bodies buried under the church where you will call Jesus name to pray do ? Its totally illuminatic in nature. The church of the devil.

The corpses were buried inside the foundation of a church building under construction and totally covered with concrete in Enugu State Nigeria.

According to the police, the workers might have been bribed to do this evil act and now that the master minder has been  apprehended, hopefully through his confession all other culprits will be apprehended.

More pictures after the cut.

NEW ACT OF CRIMINALS IN NIGERIA!!!

NEW ACT OF CRIMINALS IN NIGERIA!!!

Important warning news for Nigerians

Armed robbery has taken a new dimension in Nigeria especially Lagos given the abundant ATMs in Lagos. Armed robbers now visit ATMs on Friday evenings so as to forcefully collect the ATM cards and PIN codes of customers.

They approach you with a smile while you are attempting to make a transaction, display their guns and also point to their colleagues around in case you attempt to play smart by refusing or screaming.

They then collect your ATM cards and ask for your PIN codes. They confirm the PIN there to know if it’s fake.

Their intention is to withdraw at least the Bank ATM withdrawal limit of N100,000 daily between that Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

They do this criminal act on Friday evenings when they know Banks had closed for the day and are on weekend break.

They know majority of Nigerians don’t have the phone numbers of their Account Officers or any staff in their bank and as such can’t place a call to have their ATM card blocked by the bank until 7am Monday morning when banks resume.

❖  Withdrawal via ATMs should be done at most Friday afternoon when banks are still open.

❖   Avoid withdrawing on weekends especially on lonely and relatively less secure environments.

❖  A lady at gunpoint had 3 of her ATM cards snatched, her PIN collected with a total of N680,000 withdrawn between  Friday and Sunday night from her three accounts via ATM.

Please be careful and be wise.

Remember, when gun speaks, humans stop speaking. You may withdraw on weekends when and only if you have very little cash in your account.

Be careful and act safely

SAVE A LIFE:  Stop withdrawing on weekends especially on lonely and relatively less secure environments.

Too bad as how Soldier attack a Nepa official due too poor electric supply in Ibadan

Soldiers attack and beat up Electricity workers in Ibadan over poor power supply

Workers of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company say they have become fearful in their office after some soldiers attached to the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, Ogun State, allegedly beat up one of them over “poor power” supply.

According to Punch Newspaper, the soldiers, numbering about six and led by one Major Musa, stormed the IBEDC substation – Olumo business hub, Rounder – on March 6 and met one of them, Salau Adekunle, on duty.

They descended on Adekunle, the substation’s distribution officer, with horse whips.

It was learnt that presently on the average, the barracks and environs got five hours supply daily, which falls short of the soldiers’ expectation.

The victim, whose back bore effects of the flogging, said he ended up in a hospital because of the beating.

He said, “I was on duty on that day around 12pm when the soldiers came into our office with horse whips. They told me to get up and without explanation, they started beating me. I had to go to the hospital for treatment. I informed our head office and it promised to do something about it.

“They had come earlier then to threaten us. We reported at our head office and the head of the barracks was petitioned. They complained that they did not get supply regularly, but it is not our fault. They said they would be the ones to determine the number of hours they want power. We told them it was not possible, but they didn’t want to listen.”

Adekunle’s colleague, who does not want his name in print, said they had explained to the soldiers that the outage was caused by a reduction in the power generation nationwide, adding that the explanation fell on deaf ears.

He said the unit officials had received threats from the barracks authorities, making them to be afraid whenever they were on duty. He stated that the barracks had power for between eight to 15 hours everyday until recently when power generation dropped nationwide.

He said, “Electricity supply is divided into three levels – generation, transmission and distribution. This implies that generation affects transmission, which in turn affects distribution. The relationship between them is directly proportional. If there is less sufficient generated power, then there will be less power at our own side to distribute to the community, including the barracks. Before now, there was supply for at least eight hours and at times, 15 hours.

“Electricity generation has reduced from 4517MW to 2800MW and now to over 1500MW. All this is known and understood by the soldiers in the barracks, but they pretend as if they do not know; that is why they now get five hours’ supply per day. Initially, the soldiers blamed us. Soon, it graduated to threats. They once arrested us and took us to their barracks and detained us for hours; l was a victim.”

Another official said they had been living in fear since the incident happened, adding that threats from the soldiers had intensified.

“They (the soldiers) said it would not be threats again, but killing.  Major Musa said he would send soldiers we don’t know. We spoke out because we cannot wait for them to kill us,” he said.

Attempts to speak to the spokesperson in the brigade proved abortive. However, a soldier attached to the brigade confirmed the attack to our correspondent on the telephone.

The soldier, who did not want to be named because he was not authorised to speak to the press, said, “I am aware of it (the attack), but I was not around when it happened. Power supply is not regular in the barracks. We used to have power for eight to 10 hours.”

Major Musa, however, denied leading soldiers to attack the electricity workers.

He said, “All the information is false. You can come to the barracks to get the correct information.”

Pastor Stops Robbers, Kidnappers & Prostitutes from Giving Tithe and Offerings

Pastor Stops Robbers, Kidnappers & Prostitutes from Giving Tithe and Offerings

The General Overseer of The Lord's Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement, Pastor Lazarus Muoka, has again, barred armed robbers, prostitutes, cultists, women on trousers and kidnappers from giving offerings, pledges and paying tithes in the church.

This is even as the revival preacher urged Nigerians to turn to God in repentance for divine intervention that would lead to the revival of economic and political fortunes of the country.

Preaching to hundreds of thousands of worshipers that converged on the headquarters of the church at Ijesha, Lagos for the last lap of the two-day crusade, Muoka harped that God is not interested in ill-gotten wealth and riches but want everybody to worship him in truth and in spirit.

His words: “If you are here and you are an armed robber, a kidnapper, cultist, adulterer, among others and you don’t want to repent, please we urge you not to give offering, tithe or pledge because we are here to lead people to Christ and not money.

“The God who called us is always with us and we know that God will supply all our needs including money to finance the church. We urge you to repent from all evil and God will forgive you and give you good business that conforms with the word of God.

“We may not know you but God knows you and will judge you if you go against His will.”

I start to imagine what a normal human being would ever need 13 Billion British Pounds that’s 27 trillions of Naira for in this limited world, which if divided according to the equivocal population of Nigerians 170,000,000 people each person will get over N158 millions.

I wonder if former President GEJ could imagine that only one out of his ex-Ministers could steal such a stupendous amount under his administration without his knowledge. Wonders shall never end! In reference to the CNN report that the former

Minister has made a refund of $90B already, how much is Dangote worth? As at today Dangote is worth $14.7B and the 67th in the world while Bill Gates was the 2nd with $ 79.2 on the Forbes list.

Diezani is simply a wonder. Old pensioners are dying of hunger daily, Insurgency is consuming lives of innocent Nigerians, workers are no longer getting their salaries as at when due, Government can no longer build infrastructures, road all over the country are in complete bad shape and only one woman got away with this kind of money.
Nigeria is a wonder, while Diezani is a SHAME to PDP government.

I am afraid of women in Government, what about you?

Revealed: Our Hospitals Making Millions from Pregnant Ladies through "Forced" C-Section

Revealed: Our Hospitals Making Millions from Pregnant Ladies through "Forced" C-Section

For days, Franka Eleki refused to be consoled. Like a woman who had just been widowed, she cried her heart out. Eyes, cheeks and skin – all testified to the grief she had been soaked in. Since a doctor delivered a most frightening news to the young mother, only few things made sense as far as she was concerned.

A bulging stomach, Eleki was due to deliver her second child in the first week of November 2015 according to results from a scan in late October. Everything was set as she eagerly anticipated the arrival of the baby which scans had revealed was a boy.

But as the date drew closer...
anticipation and excitement soon gave way to anxiety after the baby failed to come in the first week of November as predicted. Even the extra weeks given after the due delivery date elapsed without any sign of labour or the child coming. It was a terrible period for the family.

Worried at the development, 28-year-old Eleki in company with her husband, Edward, a software engineer, visited the doctor of the hospital where she had registered and had been attending weekly ante-natal checks in the Agric area of Ikorodu, a Lagos suburb. After expressing their concern to the doctor on her situation, he directed that they go for another scan immediately and let him have the result. In less than 40 minutes, the couple returned with the result which predicted that the child would come in the second week of December 2015. The doctor checked the woman to see if the child was in the right position and ready to be born. But after his examination, he told Eleki and her husband that the head of the child was yet to enter the cervix which means that the labour process could not be triggered. He said even if they were to induce her into labour, it wasn’t going to be possible at that point since the baby’s head was yet to ‘engage’.

The doctor explained to the curious and emotionally-depleted couple that the only reasons why the head of the child was yet to ‘engage’ could be perhaps because the cervix was too small for it to go in or that there was no pressure in the woman’s womb to push the baby’s head into it. He prescribed Castor Oil – a therapy used to trigger labour in pregnant women – for Eleki and advised her to check back at the hospital the following day. Throughout that night, the young mother couldn’t sleep as pains similar to labour signs engulfed her. By morning, she was back at the hospital to see the doctor on the way forward. That was where everything changed.

“After explaining my experience throughout the previous night to him, he immediately proceeded to check me to see if the baby was ready to come out,” Eleki said. “Even though I was feeling the baby’s head and force around my waist more than at previous times, the doctor simply told me that the head was yet to ‘engage’ and that the situation had become a bit critical. He said he needed to speak with my husband urgently,” the Anambra State-born lady said.

That afternoon, the doctor and Edward who was at work at the time, spoke. Hard and demoralising, his words destabilised the young father for the rest of the day. It was not the type of news Edward wanted to hear.

“The doctor during our conversation on the phone that afternoon told me that my wife’s situation had become very critical,” the 33-year-old software engineer told our correspondent. “He told me that from all indications, the child was too big to pass through the cervix and that if something was not done fast, it could lead to tragedy. I asked him what options were available to us and how long we had left. I was shocked with what he told me.

“With all certainty and authoritativeness, the doctor told me that the placenta of the foetus was only a few days from dying and that if that happened, it would not survive and the mother’s life would be at grave risk as well. He said the only option was for my wife to undergo surgery. The most painful part was that the doctor boasted that even if we took her to London, Germany or anywhere in the world to meet the best gynaecologists, my wife could not be delivered of the baby normally except through surgery.

“The news rattled and affected my mood at work throughout that day. The doctor sounded very convinced and emphatic about what he was saying but something within me still felt the baby could come out without operation. That was when we finally decided to contact the doctor that delivered her of our first child. The man is a gynaecologist.

“The next day, my wife had to take the pains to go look for him at his hospital in another part of Ikorodu even though the roads in that area were so terrible. She called me later that day to tell me that the doctor had checked her and said that her condition was perfect for the baby to come out normally. He told her that the child’s head had been in the cervix all along. Two days later, my wife gave birth at that hospital through normal delivery and in fact without a single tear. The same woman the first doctor said could never give birth normally even if we took her to meet the best gynaecologists in the world. It is a big shame on them because God rescued us from their evil plans,” he said.

Child delivery done through Caesarean Section costs between N300,000 and N400,000 in that hospital as the young couple would later find out. At the place where she eventually gave birth, they paid only N25,000 – 16 times cheaper than they could have coughed out.

While the Elekis remain grateful to the heavens for rescuing them from a problem that could have drained their pockets and also put the lives of two of their own through avoidable risk, the Adekunles, another young family, have quite a different story to tell. Doctors at a private hospital in the Ogudu area of Lagos notorious for delivering babies through CS, tricked them into opting for surgery using the weapon of fear. According to Mr. Damilare Adekunle, an auto spare parts dealer, the doctors played on their naivety as potential parents to extort them.

“My wife got pregnant immediately we moved to Ogudu after our wedding in 2012,” Adekunle began his chilling narrative. “She had to quickly register for ante-natal at a nearby hospital but we never knew that the doctors there were only interested in operation and not normal delivery so that they could make more money. On one of those days when she visited for weekly checks, a nurse told her that we should be preparing N250,000 for operation because her baby was too big and could not be delivered normally. She was only six months pregnant at the time. The nurses even told her that operation was better because there would be no labour pain and that it was safer for her and the baby.

“We were naïve and inexperienced, it did not occur to us to do extra findings or discuss with our more experienced relatives and friends, so we simply believed them. Surprisingly, one week before her due date, the hospital told her to bring her things to be delivered of the baby. Of course she was operated upon that day and everything went smoothly but it was after that period that we found out more about that hospital and how it was known to be only interested in conducting operations for pregnant women for their selfish gains.

“My wife has had two other babies after that time at a different hospital through normal delivery where we were told her pelvic was big enough to accommodate the passage of any baby. We still feel hurt and cheated by that hospital because we could have lost more than the money it deceitfully collected from us,” he said.

Though, Joy Otumagba lost about N150,000 to a private hospital in the Apapa area of Lagos, she miraculously escaped going under the knife for a needless surgery.

As is the practice, doctors at the hospital had conquered and caged her spirit through fear about seven months into her pregnancy two years ago. On one ante-natal visit, she was told the baby she was carrying was big and could only be delivered through CS which costs around N250,000 at the place. To make the payment flexible, Otumagba was advised to start depositing N150,000 before her due date and pay the balance after the surgery. She had no reason to panic since the hospital was one of the best in the area. By the end of her eighth month in pregnancy, she had completed the N150,000 initial deposit. However, the intervention of an elder relative who resides in the Ajegunle part of the metropolis swung the tide in a different direction.

“I was already looking forward to the operation when a relative who came visiting one day opened my eyes. She told me to go to another hospital and also do a pelvic scan to see if the ‘passage’ was big enough for the child to pass through or not. She said if everything supported what I was initially told by the hospital I was attending, only then should I go for the operation.

“I heeded that advice and I will forever be grateful to my uncle’s wife whom God used to pull me out of that trap. Of course the pelvic scan revealed that everything was fine, so also did the doctor at the new hospital I visited. Three weeks later, I gave birth normally without any complication. I never knew CS had become a big business for some hospitals in Nigeria,” Otumagba said.

Yusuf Abdul-amin, a young doctor learnt a bitter lesson in 2014. Newly employed at a private hospital in the Ebutte Meta area of Lagos, his dream of building a successful career in the medical profession received the perfect start any of his colleagues could have wished for.

One evening, Abdul-amin, 28 at the time, walked into the hospital to witness a pathetic scene. A pregnant woman who had been in labour for a few hours was left wriggling on a bench after the doctor on duty refused to attend to her following her husband’s protest to sign a document for a surgery to be performed on her. The doctor had insisted that operation was the only option to save the life of the baby and its mother as the ‘passage way’ was too narrow for the child to come out. It was in the middle of this precarious situation that Abdul-amin walked in. The sight of the dying woman gripped him. The newly employed doctor told his colleague of his intention to personally deliver the woman of her baby regardless of his own verdict. Less than 20 minutes after taking her into the labour room, the shrill cry of a baby livened the ward. It was a huge relief for the couple but sadly, bad news for the young doctor.

“I was sacked by the owner of the hospital that day, less than two weeks after I was employed because I allowed the woman to give birth through normal delivery,” Abdul-amin told our correspondent on the phone from his base in the United States where he has since relocated and has been practising. “The owner of the hospital, who is a woman, asked me how I expected them to pay salaries and meet up with other obligations if staff prevented people from paying for operations even if they were unnecessary. The other doctors at the hospital have become part of the system and that was why they felt I was crazy when I insisted that the woman could be delivered of her baby normally.

“Even though I was shocked at that experience, I don’t regret losing that job for saving the life of an innocent woman and her baby. The hospital could have charged them at least N230,000 instead of the N35,000 they eventually paid. Only God knows how many families that hospital would have ruined through this criminal and unethical method. It is a nasty experience I find very hard to forget,” he said.

According to the United Nations Children Education Fund, about 5.9 million babies are born in Nigeria every year with around one million from that number dying before the age of five. While many of these babies arrive through normal deliveries, caesarean births – the chunk of it needless – have contributed to an increasing part of that figure. Latest reports say women in developing countries like Nigeria are 300 times more likely to die during childbirth as a result of pregnancy-related complications than their peers in the developed world.

Though, Caesarean Section, which is birth through an incision in the abdominal wall and uterus rather than through the vagina, has saved dozens of lives across the country, new findings by PUNCH reveal that most hospitals in urban centres are now using it to milk many families, especially young couples who are desperate to welcome their first babies.

A lot of these couples in a bid to satisfy the hospitals’ ‘greed’, sell entire possessions just to raise funds for needless surgeries that risks the lives of their loved ones.

The World Health Organisation says that CS should be done only as a life-saving measure when there is a risk of foetal or maternal death. The global organisation believes, “There should be no justification for any region in the world to have CS rates higher than 10 to 15 per cent.” In Nigeria, some states like Kebbi have a CS rate of 20.3 per cent.

A professor and former WHO consultant, Dr. Sundari Raveendran, said subjecting women to CS when not medically necessary is a violation of women’s rights.

“There are good reasons to be concerned about the spate of unnecessary C-sections carried out in a casual manner. Consent has been taken from women, and doctors are not giving full and complete information about the possible side effects of abdominal surgery,” she said.

A surgeon with the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Olugbenga Saliu Oseni, explained that CS, as an interventional delivery process, should only be explored when it is the only option left to save the lives of mother and baby.

“The best thing to happen to a woman is to have a normal delivery but when this is not available, the preferred option should be CS.

“There are many reasons why a doctor may prescribe CS and some occur in critical situations. But it will be crazy for any doctor to elect to do CS because he wants to make more money; that means that person is not an expert,” he said.

While before now CS in most public hospitals across the country was between N60,000 and N75,000, the fee has since been jacked up to around 150,000 and N200,000 in many of the places today. In private hospitals, it hovers between N300,000 and N1m.

A gynaecologist, Dr. Samuel Adebayo, fingers the high cost of medical equipment and other necessary infrastructure like regular electricity supply as part of the reasons why some hospitals charge exorbitant fees for CS. He said about 90 per cent of the medical supplies needed for the procedure is imported.

“Most of the supplies we use are not produced in Nigeria; not even the surgical blade that is used to severe the umbilical from the mother. The anaesthetic pack alone goes for N35,000 in some areas, though it used to be N15,000. Even ordinary Paracetamol injection is imported. That is why you see that even teaching hospitals have to increase their price.

“Again, absence of regular electricity supply is another challenge because we must sterilise all the surgical instruments we use and we must also ensure that we are on generator when doing the operation because you cannot afford to experience power failure during a Caesarian delivery. It is a multi-sector problem which government must address,” he said.

While in many parts of Europe and the United States of America the cost of CS is largely covered under the national health insurance, in Nigeria, women on the verge of delivery and their families are made to cough out huge sums from their pockets without largely any form of support from government. As a result of this, many nursing mothers are held back in the hospital for several days after delivering and sometimes weeks until their husbands or relations can clear the bogus bills.

President, Nigeria Medical Association, Dr. Kayode Obembe, said there must be certain indicators in place for a CS to take place. He said carrying out such surgeries when these indicators are absent is not only unethical but also a violation of the rights of a patient.

“Caesarean Section in the real sense of it is a life saving measure but there must be some clear cut indicators for performing such. If there is any situation now where anybody performs Caesarean Section and there are no indications for it, the patients or their relations are quite free to report to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and professionals in that field would be asked to go and reappraise the procedure. Nobody should be tricked into delivering at any hospital against their wish,” he said.

Public Relations Officer of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Mr. Henry Okwuokenye, told PUNCH that there is a tribunal and investigating panel in place that looks into any such matter and hands down appropriate sanction if complaints get to them.

He said the MDCN cannot do much on the matter except victims of such fraudulent practice take the courage to report their experiences to the organisation as they cannot be everywhere at the same time.

“The MDCN is not in hospitals everywhere, so we may not know some of these things except people give us information and make reports. We have an investigating panel and tribunal that look into matters like this and try erring doctors. As soon as we get such reports, erring doctors would be tried and dealt with.

“We need people to come out and make reports for us to set examples of these doctors. If we get only one of these fraudulent doctors and make him or her scapegoat, the others will behave properly,” he said.

Constitutional lawyer, Mr. Jiti Ogunye, posits that if truly some doctors now deliberately lure pregnant women into electing for needless CS just for pecuniary motives, they have both violated the patients’ rights and breached a fundamental part of the law.

“Subjecting a pregnant and expectant mother on the verge of delivery to a fraudulent and needless caesarian operation, based on misleading and fraudulent representation that she could not self-deliver her baby unless subjected to an assisted delivery procedure, in order to compel the woman and her husband to pay huge sums of money to a medical practitioner, maternity home, clinic or hospital, is not only cruel in the extreme but also unlawful and illegal. It is a gross act of professional misconduct, a civil wrong and a criminal act.

“It is against the physician oath because it is a surgical operation which ought to be embarked upon only to save the lives of the mother and child. It is not a cosmetic surgery. Thus, under Section 16 of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act, Cap M8, Vol 8, Laws of the Federation, 2004, such a medical practitioner, clinic or hospital is liable to be sanctioned for infamous conduct or professional misconduct.

“Such act also constitutes a civil wrong. It is tantamount to a violation of the integrity of the body of the woman. It is a tort, an act of battery that is actionable under the law of negligence, the categories of which, in law, are never closed,” he said.

A sociologist, Lanre Adewuyi, told PUNCH that this sad trend of needless extortion and unethical practice will continue to soar in Nigeria because of the seeming goldmine doctors and private hospitals appear to have found in CS.

According to him, the poor regulation of the industry and the weak laws guiding the practice in Nigeria is another dimension to the problem.

“Many of these beautiful hospitals and smartly-dressed gynaecologists are more interested in financial gains than saving lives. A caesarean delivery costs an average of N200,000 in many of these private hospitals. By the time they add other related charges, you could be paying as much as N350,000. This is a lot of money for the hospitals and that is why they would continue to trick pregnant women into opting for CS.

In a country plagued by scores of social problems top among them infrastructural shortfalls, many hospitals across Nigeria – government and private – have had to provide basic needs like clean portable water, security and even motorable roads on their own. This is aside spending huge amounts providing their own electricity supply and equipping the facilities to acceptable standards.

Adewuyi explains that until government lives up to its side of the social contract by providing basic infrastructure in the country, those who do so on their own would continue to dictate the tune to the larger majority – in this case helpless pregnant women like Mrs. Adekunle and Otumagba whose hard-earned money is daily slithered away from their grip.

Seven Lassa fever patients declared missing from medical centre in Taraba State

Seven patients with Lassa fever who were admitted at the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo Taraba State have are reportedly missing. The management of the Hospital said they are doing all they can to arrest the patients and return them to the hospital.

The Chairperson, Lassa Fever Committee at the medical centre, Dr Aisha Sani said:

“Seven persons had absconded. We are making frantic efforts to arrest and bring them back to the hospital before they infect others with the disease. We have our internal securities here, but the truth is that we need more to secure the Lassa fever unit,”.

Lassa fever has killed 14 people in the state so far this year.
