Man who went into robbery because of his blind dad, gets caught
Man who went into robbery because of his blind dad, gets caught
Members of a six-man robbery gang that had been terrorising petrol station owners in the Northern region have revealed why they choose to be robbers.
The deadly gang’s targets were filling stations and bakeries in Kaduna, Nasarawa and Niger states, including Abuja FCT. One of its operations at a filling station (name withheld) in Masaka, close to Abuja, left in its wake the death of two persons with several others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
Members of staff had closed for the day, with some of them changing into their clothes when the unexpected happened, following the deafening sounds of gunshots which made the fear-stricken staff to run into hiding.
This happened immediately after the manager of the filling station (name withheld), who had collected the proceeds of the day from the fuel attendants, was at the verge of entering his car parked within the premises of the filling station.
The astonished manager was reportedly hit with the butt of a gun by one of the unwelcomed guests, while his colleagues fired sporadically.
At the end of the operation said to have lasted less than ten minutes, two persons were reportedly hit by stray bullets while the sum of N6 million was carted away, with members of staff dispossessed of their phones and locked up in one of the offices.
Attempt to help blind father
In this interview with Crime Guard, one of the suspects, Bende Mohammed, who kept shaking his head in self pity, claimed he reluctantly joined the gang after several attempts to raise money for surgery on his visually impaired father failed. According to the Nasarawa State-born suspect,
“I never knew it would get to this. I am a power generator and grinding machine mechanic. But proceeds from each day’s business were not enough to take care of my family. Besides, I have a father who is blind. I was told he needed some money to carry out some medical tests to ascertain the category of blindness. But I didn’t have money to pay for the consultation let alone for the test. Everyday, I would be inundated with calls on his deteriorating state. When I shared my predicament with a friend, he introduced me into robbery.
“I initially refused to buy into the idea but reluctantly joined them later. The first time I went with them on an operation, we struck a filling station in Masaka, where I got N400,000. Out of the amount, I sent N100,000 to my father to use for the test. Out of the balance, I bought a motorbike which I used for commercial purpose. I intended to stop at that point and use the rest to establish myself. But the gang won’t release me. I regret everything and wished my father was not blind”, he said remorsefully.
Insider connection
On his part, 33-year-old Ikechukwu Okereke who hails from Imo State gave a startling revelation that most operations at petrol stations are carried out in connivance with some members of staff. He stated that the gang usually struck in the evening, when filling station managers would have collected money realised for the day .
According to him,
“We usually stormed filling stations in our operational vehicle. We worked on information usually given to us by insiders. Some members of staff of filling stations gave us information on when exactly to strike. Most of them assisted us because of their poor remunerations. Some of them are paid as low as N4,000 per month. They rely on stipends from customers and adjustment of pumps.
“In the case of the Nasarawa filling station operation, we had information that the manager would be coming to collect the day’s sales by 6.30pm. We arrived at the vicinity around 6pm to survey the terrain and to keep tab on the manager. We struck as he was about leaving the filling station by opening fire. In the process, we collected the cash he was with, and moved to our hideout where it was discovered to be N6 million. And we shared it equally with the informant.
“Another operation I partook in was that at Masaka, close to Abuja, where I got N400,000. The third operation was also in Nasarawa. But it was foiled owing to miscalculations on our part. One of us jumped out of the car before we reached the filling station and started shooting. This made our target to run away. We left out of frustration and invaded a bakery, where we got just N90,000.”
I was gullible
For 39-year-old Mohammed Usman, popularly known as “Dogo”, he was a victim of circumstance, and he blamed his indulgence on his gullibility. He said,
“I was a victim of circumstance. I am not really a robber. I was deceived by Yahaya (pointing to one of the suspects). He (Yahaya) called me on the phone to inform me that he had a job of N6 million and needed my assistance. I acted so foolishly because I did not even ask what kind of job it was. I went with him and others, only to discover it was a robbery operation. By then, I could not turn back. At the end, I was given N30,000. Same thing happened the second time when they stormed the bakery, where I got N15,000.”
Arrested at last
Corroborating Dogo’s claim, Yahaya Musa said
“Yes, I invited him when I was given a job to rob a filling station. I only wanted to help him raise money because of his impoverished state.”
After the incident, Musa was said to have received a call where the caller informed him that he had another filling station job for him. As usual, he reportedly invited other members of the gang and headed for the meeting point, only to walk into the welcoming hand of operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (SIRT), led by Abba Kyari.

Babies put all kinds of things in their mouth, if you have a baby please be careful and watchful...
According to a Reddit user, his wife lost her ring and searched everywhere, but couldn't find it. She came to the conclusion to take their toddler to her GP ‘just in case’.
The GP X-rayed the child, and as you can see the lost wedding ring is clearly visible.
The father said, "The reason the pediatrician suggested the x-ray was to ensure it wasn’t getting stuck anywhere it shouldn’t. Retrieving the ring wasn’t the concern.
"He’s actually shown no signs of discomfort at all. I’m certain his older brothers will be telling him about this for the rest of his life. Now we dissect each diaper like 5th grade science class."
Anyway they got lucky, the father revealed that the ring later came out after his son pooped without any prompting needed.
"We can’t believe how quickly it passed, and it didn’t seem to cause him any pain on the way out..."
CONFIRMED! Catholic Church Moves Father Mbaka, my removal is a witch hunt
CONFIRMED! Catholic Church Moves Father Mbaka, my removal is a witch hunt
*Says his removal a witch hunt
Popular Catholic priest, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka has been moved to a new duty post at Our Lady Parish, Umuchigbo, Njinike accompanied by hundreds of his parishioners admirers and well wishers.
He relocated on Saturday after he was transferred from Christ the King parish, GRA, Enugu where he had, over the years, built a cult like fellowship on the strength of precision of most of his prophecies and miracles recorded during prayer sessions at his Adoration Centre.
Father Mbaka prophesised the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of last election and also warned him last month of a plot to kill him.
His followers believe he's being punished. Mbaka himself said his new posting is a witch hunt.
As early as 7am on Saturday, a crowd had started forming at the Christ the King parish Enugu preparatory for the movement. Several lorry loads, buses and cars filled with people lined the streets as he made his way to Emene.
Band groups dished out music to which people were dancing. In fact, some were overcome by emotion to the extent that they broke down in tears.
Social and economic activities along major streets came to a halt. The journey lasted four hours.
It was a triumphal exit for Father Mbaka as he addressed the crowd and said: “I know we are going to suffer between now and a few months to come. I am going to suffer and suffer. I know that.
“I’m going to suffer because I have no place to put my head. I am going to suffer because I have no place to keep the Adoration Ministry’s assets.
“I know I’m going to suffer. Fortunately, it is going to happen in the month of lent. So, I am going to use my exit here as a Lenten observance but Jesus said it all in John 16:20 to his apostles that you will be sorrowful and the world will be rejoicing but very soon I will turn your sorrow to joy.
“But for now I know you are going to suffer. The Adoration Ministry is passing through suffering right now even though I’ve accepted that is the will of God. Is the will of God through suffering? It is a mega suffering
“The quantum of the assets of the Adoration Ministry is the only thing I am bothered about for now.
“Where am I going to keep them? I am going to stay in one small room that has only one small bed, one small table, little toilet and bathroom. So where am I going to keep all the adoration assets?
“My clothing and books I can keep in the car or somebody’s house but where will I keep these assets that I have given to the Catholic church of Enugu?
“But I say may God take the glory and whoever that has offended me, I have forgiven.
“I won’t fight anybody or even dream of battling anybody. If anybody allows the devil to use him, the same that advised you to make a mistake will laugh at you when you cry over the error. The baby is born, there is no going back.
“We are moving out. We have been doing it and we will do it again. Moses was going out with a rod in his hand, Mbaka is moving out with his Bible and this nobody can take away from me.”
I am telling you people as a courageous leader, do not be afraid. "We are moving and in not distant time, you people are going to smile."

Nigeria Would’ve Collapsed Had Officials Of My Govt Stole That Much As Alarmed – Jonathan
Nigeria Would’ve Collapsed Had Officials Of My Govt Stole That Much As Alarmed – Jonathan
“Jonathan said the allegation was the same way somebody stated that $49.8 billion was missing, which he later said was $12 billion and later $20 billion, saying when the issue was raised by the German chancellor with him in a meeting, he told the foreign leader that if such amount of money was missing in Nigeria, the country would collapse”
That was a quote from the Daily Sun Newspaper where it was said that the former President Goodluck Jonathan opined that Nigeria would have collapsed had officials of his government had stole that much as being peddled by some quarters.
NEWS: Why I Won’t Speak Now on Dasuki’s $2.1bn Arms Scandal – Jonathan Breaks Silence From Geneva
Speaking in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday at a media interaction organised by the Geneva Press Club, Jonathan said as a former president, who laboured to build institutions, it will be out of place for him to do anything that would undermine government and processes.
He also said speaking on the arms purchase probe of the President Buhari-led administration would amount to subjudice as well as jeopardise the processes already instituted. He, however, said at the appropriate time, he would address all the issues being raised about the issue.
“I would have loved to speak extensively because, even back in Nigeria, people are saying that I should say something. In my country, there are laws. When issues are before the court, you are not expected to speak on them. If I speak now, it will affect court processes and investigation. What I want Nigerians to know is that we did key issues and things. We tried to build institutions. We encouraged separation of power. If I speak now, it will negate the efforts we made. Let us leave the institutions to do their jobs,” Jonathan said.
Speaking on the amount of money said to have been embezzled by past leaders, Jonathan said the figures being mentioned are alarming. He stated that missing or embezzled money are being presented as if they all happened during his five years tenure, whereas there are some being mentioned which happened before he came to power. He said since Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, said 55 people, including governors embezzled money running into N1 trillion, he should have the names of those involved.
He, however, said the allegation that about one million barrel of oil was stolen everyday could not have been true, since the country, during his government, was officially producing roughly above two million barrels a day, which was not consistent. He said if one million barrel was therefore, being stolen daily, there was no way the country could have survived.
Jonathan said the allegation was the same way somebody stated that $49.8 billion was missing, which he later said was $12 billion and later $20 billion, saying when the issue was raised by the German chancellor with him in a meeting, he told the foreign leader that if such amount of money was missing in Nigeria, the country would collapse.
He said in order to get to the root of the matter, his administration instituted a probe, which involved forensic audit that later proved that such amount of money was never missing.
ERITREAN MINISTER HITS OUT AT HOAX ON POLYGAMY ORDER
ERITREAN MINISTER HITS OUT AT HOAX ON POLYGAMY ORDER
LEFT: Eritrean Minister of Information Mr Yemane MeskelBy HILARY KIMUYU
Eritrean Minister of Information Mr Yemane Meskel has strongly criticised a media hoax that claimed the country had ordered all men to marry at least two wives.
“Media frenzy to parrot this ludicrous, fabricated and trite story of the Mufti’s presumed religious decree on mandatory polygamy is appalling,” Meskel wrote on his official Twitter account.
The story was first published on a Somali website, Diplomat News Network, and later picked by a Kenyan newspaper and other news outlets in Nigeria and South Africa.
According to the article, the order on mandatory polygamy was made due to a shortage of men in the country in the wake of a civil war between 1998-2000.
In the article, the order reportedly gave an assurance that all the wedding and housing expenses would be paid by the state. The punishment for not embracing polygamy would be life imprisonment with hard labour, it added.
The Eritrean minister said; “The story illustrates vileness of the dark forces of disinformation and proclivity of others to readily embrace the negative narrative on Eritrea.”
Kenyans on social media platforms went on the overdrive when the hoax first hit the internet. The Eritrea hashtag trended, as memes portraying hordes of Kenyan men relocating to Eritrea emerged.
A Court reserves judgement in Ibinabo Fiberesima’s suit
A Court reserves judgement in Ibinabo Fiberesima’s suit
Lagos—The Court of Appeal in Lagos, yesterday, reserved judgement in a suit filed before it by former beauty queen, Ibinabo Fiberesima, challenging the judgement of a Lagos High Court which sentenced her to five years imprisonment for the death of one Dr. Giwa Suraj. The appellant was sentenced to five years imprisonment by Justice Deborah Oluwayemi for reckless driving which caused the death of a staff of a Lagos State Hospital, Dr. Suraj, in an auto accident along the Lekki-Epe expressway, Lagos.
At the resumed hearing of the appeal yesterday, the appellate court presided over by Justice U.I. Ndukwe-Anyanwu (Mrs.) reserved judgement in the appeal after counsel of both parties adopted their written addresses. The court also ordered that the appellant, Fiberesima, who was not in court, to appear before it when judgement is to be delivered adding that the date will be communicated to the parties.
Fiberesima had earlier been awarded a N100, 000 fine by an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, but the then Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Supo Sasore (SAN), felt unsatisfied with the judgement. This prompted the state government to take its case to the Lagos High Court. At the Lagos High court, Justice Oluwayemi set aside the option of fine imposed by the Magistrates’ Court and sentenced Fiberesima to five years imprisonment for dangerous and reckless driving.
In her judgement, Justice Oluwayemi held that the trial Magistrate exercised judicial recklessness when he gave the convict an option of fine. The court held that the option of N100, 000 given to the convict did not serve the purpose of justice in the matter and subsequently ordered a refund of N100, 000 to Ibinabo Fiberesima.
